HARARE – Troubled singer Trevor Dongo was on Wednesday arrested by police officers from Harare Central Police Station and charged with malicious damage to property after the widely publicised fire at his rented apartment in the Central Business District.
According to reports Dongo went to the police station with his lawyer, Dumisani Mthombeni and signed a “warned and cautioned” statement before he was released.
The singer has reportedly told police he was not at the apartment when the fire started.
Meanwhile a few days after he sent alarm bells ringing with a suicidal post after the fire that gutted his apartment, Dongo has apologised to Macdonald MacDee Chidavaenzi for making comments that turns sentiments against him.
In his letter, Dongo suggested that MacDee was somehow connected to his recent troubles.
According to unconfirmed reports, Dongo’s home was torched by one of the women in his life, after she caught up with him while he was with another love interest.
In his post on social media after the incident, Dongo claimed that the issue had been sensationalised.
Since the incident, social media has been abuzz with support for Dongo, with artists pledging to help.
In a new post, Dongo apologised to MacDee for having seemingly brought him into the drama engulfing his life.
“I wish to make a public, unreserved, genuine apology to my long time friend, brother and producer; Macdonald Chidavaenzi (Macdee ) and his family over the hurtful post I made against him in my last social media post albeit at a time when I was not in the right frame of mind and needed him the most.
“Today I spoke to MacDee over the phone for the first time in many months after we had misunderstood each other. I was very wrong & insensitive in my earlier post. I thought he had abandoned me at a very difficult moment in my life but I was wrong,” he said.
Dongo acknowledged that MacDee had been unfairly attacked due to suggestions he had made.
“You have been unjustifiably attacked because of my post. I implore everyone not to demonize Macdee as some of you were already doing. He is very innocent and I wronged him.
“It was only through that phone call that we both discovered that our misunderstanding was petty; can never erase the strong bond of friendship and brotherhood we share.
“I value that bond and of friendship and brotherhood we share. I value that bond and reminisce over the many hit songs and music projects we did together over the years,” he said.
Dongo also reassured his fans, saying he now had a better outlook on life after appearing suicidal earlier on.
“I also apologize to the public and my music fans and family for the anxiety caused you. I almost gave up on life but I assure you all that I am recovering and may need to go for counseling to get psycho-social assistance verily need after all the challenges I have been faced with in recent times.
“Last but not least, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been there for me or has reached out during this very difficult time. I value your love, care and support.
“God willing, I will bounce back and get back on my two feet with your help and support. God bless you ALL and remember me in your prayers,” he said.
