SOUTH AFRICA – Charmza the DJ, the man at the centre of the legal dispute over Master KG’s smash hit song, Jerusalema, claims that he has gone into hiding until after the conclusion of the case after some armed men reportedly broke into his family’s home and gunned down his brother last month.
He believes the killers were looking for him.
Charmza’s brother, Jimmy Chauke was recently shot three times in the head by intruders, who the DJ claims where there looking for him.
The highly publicised dispute between Charmza and Master KG over the ownership of the hit song Jerusalema is set for trial in November.
In an interview with Zimoja, Charmza said he would be in hiding until the conclusion of the trial.
“No one can know my whereabouts until the matter is settled. This is a big case worth over R100 million,” he said.
“I want justice and to prove that I made the song and deserve as much right to also be credited and enjoy the fruits of my labour.”
Charmza claimed that he and featured artist, Nomcebo were invited for a studio session by Master KG who was not present at the time they conceptualised and made Jerusalema.
“The song was a collaborative effort. I composed the song, and Nomcebo wrote the lyrics,” he said.
“There were no contracts or agreements, but I expected to be credited and paid like everyone else. But let us see what the court says.”
The case has been ongoing for five years, with Charmza claiming he is entitled to royalties from the 2020 hit song. The trial is set to take place in the Pretoria High Court from November 17-28.
