HARARE – Musician Trevor Dongo says the launch of his latest album, Seasons, was a flop because bad weather and the poor state of the country’s economy is keeping people away from showbiz gigs.
Dongo launched his seventh album at Long Chen Amusement Park before a reportedly paltry crowd.
In an interview with a local tabloid, Dongo said his show had flopped for various reasons, which included inclement weather and lack of spending power in the Zimbabwean populace.
“The reason why people didn’t show up was due to limited disposable income in the economy, location, many other events on the same day, our entry fee, the cold weather,” he said.
Critics have pointed out the fact that there were more eye-catching counter-attractions in the capital on the same weekend of the launch as the reason that Dongo’s show flopped.
Girlfest and Miss Zimbabwe Universe were some of the events that were billed for the weekend. It remains to be seen whether Dongo’s album will garner the same acclaim as some of his past efforts.
The album consists of 12 tracks, featuring various artists including Freeman HKD, Shinsoman, ExQ, King Shaddy, Yoz, Lizibo, Tamy Moyo, Nyasha David, Ishan, Lawd Jae and Young Gemini.
