Bikita Minerals complain that Rufaro Stadium pitch is a threat to players

Must Try

HARARE – Bikita Minerals Football Club have raised concerns over the poor condition of the Rufaro Stadium pitch, describing it as a threat to player safety.

The club voiced their frustrations in a post on their official Facebook page during their 2-0 win over Herentals on Saturday at the ceremonial home of football.

“Rufaro (Stadium) turf needs some real work, players slipping and the pitch is a threat to the players,” posted Bikita Minerals 20 minutes into the match.

Rufaro Stadium is currently in a visibly deteriorated state and arguably unfit to host top-flight matches.

The pitch has become worn out 14 games into the Premier Soccer League season.

The overuse of the facility has led to it’s deterioration as Harare teams Scottland, Herentals, CAPS United and Dynamos, all use the venue for their home matches.

In addition, the stadium also hosts Northern Region Division One games and other fixtures including curtain raisers.

Hopefully, the Bikita Minerals’ complaint will see the City of Harare urgently addressing the matter especially as the PSL takes a break due to the upcoming international games.

Suggested improvements include properly watering the pitch using a modern irrigation system and applying water based paint instead of whitewash for field markings.

Furthermore, cutting the grass with electric lawn mowers to ensure an even playing surface.
