Lisa grabbed the other child and fled from the homestead. She went and sought refuge at her brother-in-law’s house, leaving Nigel with Washington.

Lisa spent the whole night there,” said deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda.

He said the following morning when Lisa was returning home, she met Washington wearing a blood-stained shirt.

“She arrived home only to discover that Nigel was severely injured. He had a deep cut on the head, bruises all over the body and swollen face and eyes,” he said.

Lisa informed a nearby relative, Rangarirai Mawarira, who then ferried Nigel to Nyanga District Hospital, where he died upon arrival.
