HARARE – Zimbabwe Warriors striker Knowledge Musona has been officially unveiled as a Scottland FC player and will this season line up alongside his young brother Walter Musona.

The former Kaizer Chiefs forward was unveiled at Rufaro Stadium, where Scottland were playing against Yadah.

Musona will link up with his younger brother, Walter, who also plays for Scottland.

The 35-year-old becomes the latest high-profile player to return to the Zimbabwean top-flight league, following in the footsteps of Kundai Benyu, who signed for CAPS United at the start of the season.

Musona was recently released by Saudi Pro League side Al-Okhdood, where he spent one season.

He parted ways with the club alongside six other foreign players: Nigerian winger Savior Godwin, Guinean forward Ousmane Barry, Jamaican defender Damion Lowe, and Brazilian trio Paulo Vitor, Petros Matheus, and Diego Souza.

Despite playing a crucial role in helping Al-Okhdood Club avoid relegation in the Saudi Pro League, Musona was released by the club.

He has now gone back to Zimbabwe with Scottland FC who are owned by gold baron and MP Scott Sakupwanya.

The day was 11 March 2007 and the police were indiscriminately shooting at innocent people as they violently disrupted the Save Zimbabwe Campaign prayer rally in Highfield, Harare.

As my friend Kudakwashe Matibiri and I joined the melee in running away for our dear lives, we saw a man collapse just a few metres ahead of us. The man had actually been shot dead.

I later learnt the man was Gift Tandare, then a veteran MDC stalwart from Glen View in Harare, He had been callously shot to death in cold blood, never again to go back home alive to be with his family.

During his funeral, as the Tandare family waited for the body at his home in Glen View, CIO agents seized his body from Doves funeral parlour in Harare and drove to bury him at his rural home in Mount Darwin.

Reports at the time said the regime seized his body because they feared that a public funeral would martyrize him and become a rallying call for the democratic struggle in Zimbabwe

The 11 March 2007 violence left many sad, lasting impressions. Several senior leaders of the party, including then party president Morgan Tsvangirai were violently assaulted by the police right inside Machipisa police station.

The battered picture of Morgan Tsvangirai was to invoke an outpouring of international condemnation from the region and the broader international community on the State sanctioned violence in Zimbabwe.

But the Tandare family is to this day struggling to cope with their lives after their father’s life was snuffed out by the State.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist his son, Gift Tandare Jr, to complete his Sociology and Social Policy Studies degree at the Midlands State University.

Zanu PF has left many orphans and battered souls across the country, including Gift Tandare Jr whose daily needs must prick our collective conscience, empathy, solidarity and assistance.

The boy needs your assistance.

HARARE – Controversial socialite Mai Jeremaya has penned what she has said are her final words to the men she accused of rape, Martin Charlie and Thabo Blessing Dube, in which she claimed that the two would suffer until they repented and atoned for what she alleges they did to her.

The two were freed earlier this month after a magistrate presiding over their case said the State’s case was too weak for a reasonable court to convict.

In a statement that was accompanied by a video for her new song, Pamushana, Mai Jeremaya said a lifetime of suffering awaited the two.

“A terrible tragedy. Not just a tragedy, but a real tragedy. Today I want to thank you Thabo and Martin. You were used by God to change my life, you ate where there was no food and took the spoils. I had a bad experience and passed on to people who knew that I had passed on.

“I was afraid of everyone, I was desperate, and I wanted to be loved. I’m sorry to tell you that it’s happening to me to an extent that I now believe the concept we learned in Economics A Level that the bad of one is the good of another.

“Ying and Yang… basically if you wrong someone who has done you no wrong you will suffer in the flesh. You will suffer, boys. You will go to bed hungry, boys. You will suffer,” the letter read.

The socialite also hit out at her friend, Cynthia Duringo, whose testimony helped the two accused.

“I feel sorry for you I even wish i could reverse it for you, but murikufunga kuti makahwina saka you never got time to seek mercy even in private. Maka bhaiza boys. Brotherhood is not even happy with you.

“May you rot in poverty until you seek Jesus. Cynthia sha, I always had a bad feeling about you but thought I was sinning against God by messing with you, it was just intuition. But I’m glad I learned my lesson.

“Sorry, life will take some time and you’ll be hurt by the drugs, they’re hard to live with,” she wrote.

FLORIDA – Sky Daily, the wife of WWE legend Hulk Hogan, has confirmed that the 71-year-old wrestler had ‘health issues’ leading up to his death on Thursday morning in Florida.

Although an official cause of death is yet to be released, TMZ reported he experienced “cardiac arrest.”

Taking to Instagram, Sky posted a heartfelt tribute after his death, revealing that Hogan had been suffering from health issues, but she had been confident he would recover.

“I wasn’t ready for this… and my heart is in pieces,” she wrote. “He had been dealing with some health issues, but I truly believed we would overcome them. I had so much faith in his strength. I thought we still had more time.”

“To the world, he was a legend… but to me, he was my Terry. The man I loved. My partner. My heart.”

She ended her tribute with a call for privacy and prayer; “He was a believer in Christ, and I take comfort knowing his soul is at peace and he’s been welcomed home. Please keep his family and all of us who loved him in your prayers as we try to navigate this new reality.”

One report by the Daily Mail quoted a source who revealed that Hogan suffering was from “shortness of breath, got tired easily, had lost a lot of weight and was on oxygen.”

It’s also reported he had recently undergone major heart surgery.

Police on Thursday morning responded to call from Hogan’s Clearwater, Florida, home and they said they found him “experiencing a serious medical issue.”

Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time and managed to break into Hollywood as an actor and reality television personality.

Hogan is survived by his wife Sky and his two children, Brooke and Nick Hogan.

HARARE – All is set for the Pomona flats groundbreaking ceremony on 29 July following a successful uptake of the apartments offering – marking a pivotal moment in Harare’s urban evolution.

The groundbreaking ceremony signals the beginning of construction work of the first batch of the apartment blocks tucked into the US$4 billion Pomona project.

Pomona dubbed a “City within a City” estate borders with one of Harare’s premier golf clubs – Wingate and is within striking distance of Harare’s growing commercial hubs – the Green Zone.

The development promises more attraction with the ongoing road works on Alpes Road – that will address issues of accessibility and ease of travel.

Occupancy is expected within a year from the construction start date.

The Pomona flats become the first highrise development in Harare North and the first such development in a live, work, shop and place enclave.

WestProp chief executive Mr Ken Sharpe has often described the development as “a home, workstation, entertainment and shopping hub where the new urbanite thrives”.

A total of 22 blocks consisting of 16-unit apartments on three floors each – will be decorate the Pomona landscape creating a new vibrant community and opportunities for business.

This means in phase 1 there will be 352 apartment units – translating to housing 352 families. Phase 2 will have the same number of units. The architects created spacious parking space of 530 bays for residents and 178 for visitors.

According to development permit from City of Harare “the gate shall always be manned or be electronically controlled”. The Pomona gatehouse is already in place.

Nestled in the bigger Pomona City within a city enclave – the apartments offer safety and affordable luxury for new families while introducing them to the new urban life where one can live, work, shop and play within a 15-minute walk to all amenities.

A 15-minute city is a walkable, self-sufficient neighborhood where residents can access work, schools, shops, parks, and healthcare within a 15-minute walk or bike ride.

The brainchild of Mr Ken Sharpe the chief executive of WestProp Holdings – Pomona City is the true measure of urban lifestyle living.

“People buying into the city will always be happy because of the safety, sense of community and returns on investment,” he said.

The 18-hole Wingate Golf Course is one of the key features abutting Pomona City coupled with the new shopping hubs taking shape along Harare Drive. The golf course with its club house and pristine greens offers a multi-million-dollar garden feature to Pomona residents.

Some key features of the Pomona apartments include spacious 2-to-4-bedroom units with modern finishes, a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence powered security system, swimming pool, gym and other recreational amenities.

When it is built and completed the estate will have a shopping mall adorned with fine dining facilities, general eateries, banks, and anchor supermarkets among other pull factor facilities.

HARARE – In what was a widely anticipated outcome, Platinum Royals boss Chido Chizondo has been elected as the new chairperson of the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) following a resounding victory.

Chizondo secured 13 out of 16 votes to defeat her opponent, Ntokoziso Moyo.

She now takes over from Theresa Maguraushe who has been serving in an interim capacity.

Speaking after her election, Chizondo outlined her immediate priorities.

She said she will focus on addressing the league’s lack of sponsorship and improving player welfare.

“Our league is still struggling without proper sponsorship. The second half of the season presents an opportunity for us to push harder to ensure that our clubs don’t continue to suffer,” she said.

“Player welfare is a top priority. Our girls are not receiving the support they deserve. It’s crucial that they are well-equipped, have access to medical assistance and receive the care they need, especially since many have suffered injuries that forced them out of the game.”

Chizondo also emphasised the need to strengthen the league’s grassroots development.

“Our developmental structures are not as stable as they should be. Establishing strong grassroots pathways is vital, and we aim to lay that foundation in the remainder of the season.”

Lewis Muzhara was elected unopposed as vice-chairperson.

The new board members are Mercy Makuwatsine, James Shamuyarira Mupfudza, Rugwevera Sibusisiwe Dube, and Talent Chitsaka.

“Tax on Poverty”: Banks in Zimbabwe exploiting the poor with inquiry charges

HARARE – Poor Zimbabweans, heavily reliant on mobile banking and traditional financial services for their daily transactions, are facing a “hidden burden” as “exploitative” charges for simple balance inquiries erode their already stretched incomes and undermine efforts to promote financial inclusion in the country.

The motion, moved by Norton MP Richard Tsvangirai in Parliament on Wednesday, argued that these fees are “unnecessarily excessive, exploitative, and place an undue burden on the already economically vulnerable citizens.”

Tsvangirai cited that millions of Zimbabweans rely heavily on these digital platforms for their daily transactions, including salaries, pensions, and remittances.

He stated that a basic service like checking one’s account balance, often free in other countries, has become a “luxury” in Zimbabwe.

He cited examples of mobile money platforms like Ecocash and OneMoney, which reportedly charge around ZiG290 (approximately US0.15 to US0.30) for a USD balance inquiry as of June 2025.

Traditional banks such as CBZ, POSB, and ZB Bank are also said to impose similar fees for mobile or ATM balance checks.

Drawing comparisons to regional practices, Tsvangirai noted that major South African banks like FNB and Capitec offer free balance inquiries via their applications, and Botswana’s mobile banking apps and ATMs do not charge for such services.

He argued that these countries understand the importance of reducing barriers to financial inclusion.

“This charge is not just a fee; it is a tax on poverty,” Tsvangirai stated.

He provided an illustration of a domestic worker earning US$50 per month who might check their balance multiple times to confirm payments, potentially losing nearly a dollar to these charges.

“That is nearly US$1 gone, lost to checking, not spending. That dollar could buy two loaves of bread or pay for a round trip of public transport in some areas. The majority of Zimbabweans using mobile money platforms are the unbanked or low-income earners.

“People who rely on Ecocash, One-Money transfer or ZIPIT Smart, every enquiry charge chips away at their already stretched income.

“This is a hidden burden on the poor. A silent penalty for being careful with money. It undermines financial trust and participation,” Tsvangirai stated.

The motion further noted that these ongoing charges undermine efforts to promote financial inclusion and erode public confidence in the banking system.

It suggested that people are becoming hesitant to check their balances, preferring instead to guess or resort to keeping cash at home, which increases security risks and hinders the move towards a cashless economy.

The motion has recommended that the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion “put in place measures which ensure that all banks and mobile money operators cease forthwith the practice of charges on balance inquiries.”

It further called for enforced transparency in service fee structures, benchmarking Zimbabwean banking policies against regional best practices, and urged the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to incorporate this issue into its financial inclusion policy review and consumer protection regulations.

“This is not just about fees. It is about dignity, it is about trust and building an economy where even the poorest citizen is treated with fairness,” Tsvangirai stated.

The debate on the motion was adjourned.

In an interview with Nehanda Radio, Tariro Hungwe, a vendor in Warren Park, Harare, echoed the same sentiments saying, “It’s just not fair”.

“It’s just not fair. You can see how hard we work for every dollar, and then the bank takes a piece of it just for me to see if my own money is even there. It feels like we are being punished for trying to manage our small incomes,” she said.

“How are we supposed to save or plan when every little check costs us?

“This is the reason why people choose to sell their products in cash.”

HARARE – Simba Bhora chairman Isiah Mupfurutsa has been elected as the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman, emerging victorious in a tightly contested vote.

Mupfurutsa beat Manica Diamonds’ Masimba Chihowa, FC Platinum’s Dumisani Sisale, and Leonard Musariri of Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The election went to a second round after no candidate secured a clear majority in the first round.

In the runoff, Mupfurutsa secured 10 votes to Chihowa’s 8.

Speaking after his election, the former Dynamos chairperson expressed gratitude and a commitment to advancing Zimbabwean football.

“I am honoured by the trust my colleagues have placed in me,” said Mupfurutsa.

“I look forward to working with all stakeholders to grow our league, improve standards and ensure professionalism across all clubs.”

Mupfurutsa replaces Farai Jere, who stepped down in December last year to contest for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency, before withdrawing at the eleventh hour.

The veteran football administrator takes over the reins at a time when the PSL is focused on restructuring and enhancing competitiveness in local football.
