Former Bafana Bafana international Quinton Fortune has set his sights on becoming manager of English giants Manchester United.
Quinton Fortune
Fortune is currently assistant coach for the club’s Under-23 side, but says his “dream” is to move up the ranks in the coming years, though he admits he may have to leave the club to gain experience.
“I thought about that question yesterday for some reason and my first thought was to become the manager of Manchester United,” he told the official Manchester United podcast.
“That’s my dream. Of course, I’m starting now with the Under-23s and I’m learning a lot and I want to learn as much as possible because management changes so much in the game today.
“[I want to] learn and just try to help young players get better. That’s the main thing now for me.
“Yes, we want to win games of course, but the aim now for myself and Woody [head coach Neil Wood] is to get the players to the first team.
“That’s the most important thing. And from there you learn as much as possible.”
Fortune admits that it could be difficult to rise through the ranks at a club like United, which has such big expectations and seeks to appoint highly qualified coaches for the first team.
He also admits that it is a tough road in English football for Black coaches.
“Look, I may have to go out and learn somewhere else and become a manager. But the dream, the ultimate dream, is to come back and be the manager of Manchester United.”From what I’ve been through, I’m going for the highest level. I want to be given the job because of my ability.
“I want to always be judged because of my character and what I can bring to the team, not because of the colour of my skin.”
Fortune spent seven seasons at Old Trafford, during which time he made 76 appearances. — SuperSport
Health workers, especially nurses, are at a high risk of contracting Covid-19 pandemic due to the careless behaviour of members of the public who violate lock down rules and regulations.
A nurse checks a patient’s temperature
This comes amid reports that 13 more Mpilo Central Hospital nurses have tested positive to Covid-19 and are part of the 60 cases which have been reported in Bulawayo.
Earlier this month, a nurse from the same institution tested positive to the global pandemic which led to Mpilo testing 197 health workers who were in contact with her and three patients who were positive.
The nurses have been put on isolation and Mpilo is yet to test more health workers who were in contact with the 13 as there are test kit challenges.
The world over, at least 90 000 health care workers had been infected by Covid-19 and more than 260 nurses had died by the end of May according to the International Council of Nurses (ICN).
As of Sunday, Bulawayo had 60 Covid-19 cases and two deaths while the national cumulative figure stood at 489 with six deaths.
According to the Bulawayo City Council, 26 of the cases that had been recorded in the city were from Hillcrest, Hillside, Kumalo, Emakhandeni, Cowdray Park, Pumula South, Nkulumane, Barbourfields, Lobengula West and Magwegwe suburbs.
The infected nurses are in isolation at their homes and Elangeni Training Centre and they are all constantly being followed up by the city health department.
In an interview, Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Cde Judith Ncube said it was worrying to note that health workers testing positive for Covid-19 were on the increase.
Minister Ncube said members of the public were deliberately exposing health workers to Covid-19 by illegally coming into the country without going through quarantine centres.
She urged members of the public to adhere to rules and regulations that had been laid down to control the spread of Covid-19.
“Thirteen of our nurses tested positive to Covid-19 and it’s mostly because of our reckless behaviour as residents. I know there are people who are sneaking into the country and by-passing quarantine measures that have been laid down and that exposes our health care workers,” said Minister Ncube.
“We should not allow anyone into our homes who would not have gone through quarantine as they will fall sick and end up in hospitals thereby endangering the lives of our health care workers.”
Minister Ncube said residents were reluctant to practise social distancing, which puts everyone at risk.
“I even appeal to supermarkets that they sanitise trolleys after every use because none of us is safe,” she said.
Minister Ncube appealed to the business community and private players to help the city source test kits which are in short supply.
“I appeal to our blessed business people and private companies to help us source test kits as we are having shortages. It is very important that we test as many people as possible so that we have a clear idea of where we stand as a city in terms of cases,” said Minister Ncube.
Medical practitioner Dr Khayelitsha Dube said nurses were more at risk to Covid-19 due to the longer periods they spend with members of the public in their day to day duties.
“We are more at risk because of the concentration of sick people that we interact with in our duties. What makes it more dangerous is the fact that most people may have Covid-19 but they do not know as they have not yet tested,” said Dr Dube.
He said doctors were also exposed but nurses were at a higher risk as they spent more time with patients compared to other health workers.
Mpilo acting chief executive officer Dr Solwayo Ngwenya said health workers were at higher risk of contracting Covid-19.
“We are intensifying our surveillance system by testing contacts here at the hospital and we will make sure that we will make PPE widely available for use by health workers,” said Dr Ngwenya.
“We have a peculiar situation where we have to warn people about the dangers of Covid-19 yet every morning we have to wake up and go care for patients some of whom have the virus.”
He said people must desist from treating Covid-19 as if its non-existent.
“I urge the public to be wary of the dangerous pandemic as cases may go up since we are in winter. People who have no serious business should remain at home at least until after the cold weather. Social distancing is necessary because we are witnessing worrying trends of people wearing masks but not practising social distancing,” he said.
Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni said the city health department had managed to trace over 1 358 people who were in contact with 26 of the infected.
He said primary sources were tested and secondary sources were observed for Covid-19 symptoms. The Chronicle
WWE wrestling star The Undertaker has received an outpouring of support on social media after saying he had “no desire to get back in the ring”.
Mark Calaway, known as The Undertaker, says he has “no desire to get back in the ring”
The 55-year-old, whose real name is Mark Calaway, said in a recent documentary that there was “nothing left for [him] to conquer”.
His words suggest plans to retire after a career spanning three decades.
But neither Mr Calaway nor the WWE have formally announced his retirement from the league.
The Dead Man, as he is nicknamed, made the comments during the new WWE biopic The Last Ride.
He spoke about his most recent match against wrestler AJ Styles, which ended with him burying his opponent and riding away on a motorcycle.
“It was a perfect moment. You don’t necessarily always get those. If there was ever a perfect ending to a career, that right there was it,” Mr Calaway said.
“It’s time this cowboy really rides away,” he added. “I can do more good outside the ring than I can inside. I’m finally at a place where I can accept that.”
He said he would consider returning for one last match, but that “only time would tell”.
Mr Calaway has been a multiple world heavyweight champion, six-time tag team title holder and winner of the Royal Rumble.
He began his career with World Class Championship Wrestling in 1987, and moved to the WWE in the 1990s as a final member of Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Team.
Mr Calaway is also known as a WWE pioneer. He was part of the first Casket Match at Survivor Series in 1992, the first Buried Alive match in 1996 and the inaugural Hell in a Cell match in 1997.
Despite enormous popularity, however, he has not chosen to follow superstars like John Cena or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson into movies.
He told the BBC last month that he “had opportunities to do so” but had decided against it.
“It doesn’t work for me,” said Mr Calaway. “Wresting and WWE is my passion. It’s where I’ve completely invested and where my heart is at.”
On Sunday, he tweeted a clip from The Last Ride and wrote “you can never appreciate how long the road was until you’ve driven to the end”.
His revelation has prompted a wave of supportive messages on social media, using the hashtag #ThankYouTaker . AJ Styles said he would be “honoured” if their fight had been The Undertaker’s last.
Ring announcer Mike Rome also paid tribute to the wrestling star, saying “thank you for making our childhood so cool.”
Thank you for making our childhood so cool. Thank you for the journeys you took us on. Thank you for growing with us, and evolving. Thank you for being larger than life. Thank you for everything you have given to wrestling. You will always be #ThePhenom. #ThankYouTaker 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/UsWwOyEHWi

There has been speculation in previous years about his retirement. In 2017, after losing a match to Roman Reigns, Mr Calaway dropped his iconic gloves, hat and trenchcoat in the middle of the ring before walking backstage. BBC News

Comedienne Mai TT who returned from UK over the weekend says she is safe in private self-quarantine. The versatile entertainer said she had missed her children and family back in Zimbabwe after she was locked up in the Queen’s land after a botched tour.
In an interview with H-Metro shortly after touching down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Mai TT said home was best.
“At first it was stressful but I got used to it. Indeed I was missing home especially my kids I could even cry whilst thinking about them.
“I’m qarantined in a private place which I can’t give out a name for security reasons but very comfortable,” she said.
Mai TT who is a darling of many said she came back rich with more stuff for her fans.
“My fans should expect more fireworks now that I revisited my lost career of music but I’m back in the music industry with a bang so they should even expect life performances and shows with a full band after Covid-19.
“Musically, I collaborated with Kazz Khalif, a well-known musician from UK, Icey Stanley a hip hop guru from UK, Faybay a lady from UK as well Lamont a musician from there. I also did videos which are trending on YouTube
“I have recorded so many songs such as Letting You Go featuring Kazz Khalif, Nyarara featuring Lamont Chitepo, Ufambe Neni featuring Icey Stanley and Sugarzaddy featuring Faybay,” she said.
Although Mai TT has been away for some time, said she never abandoned her charity work as she helped many people during he Covid-19 induced lockdown.
“As I was in UK, I didn’t forget my Zimbabwe community since I was donating free clean water in almost every community.
“I donated groceries for single mother and orphans. It has always been in me to help the needy.
“I also have my soccer team of young boys called Team Mai TT. Some of them I pay their school fees and assist them,” she said.
Despite her stint in the UK where her former boyfriend Zizoe resides, she said they could not reconcile as was speculated.
“I am not getting along with that criminal, I don’t even want to hear about him and I regret knowing him and helping him since he betrayed me.
“I’m already in a new relationship, I don’t take back what I vomited so he can go hang and besides he never loved me he only wanted fame and used me as a ladder,” she said.
Mai TT also gave a good piece of advice to single mother in her similar position.
“I would like to urge them not to date young and broke men because they will destroy you since they are men on a mission which they failed to achieve on their own.”
Like most artistes who rely on numbers and public gatherings, May TT said she had several gig cancelled.
“I had several gigs in UK but because of Covid-19 everything went to zero I had to refund people and it was a loss on my side.
“However, Covid-19 will come and go just like any other disease. Even if it stays we shall be protected by the blood of Jesus,” she said.
She also thanked individuals who looked after her when she was dumbed.
“I want to thank my cousin Rose who took me after Zizoe’s family threw me out yet they are the ones who had made me to come there.
“Rose told me I can’t stay in a hotel whilst she’s there. She took me to her house and we stayed happily till I returned home.
“I also want to thank our very good friend Simba aka DJ Refkex who connected me to UK celebrities.
“I can never thank these guys they stood by me through thick n thin
“’At the end of the day I did more than what Zizoe did during my stay in England.
“He is just gallivanting hopping from one woman to another and being fed by his family. He has nothing to show for his stay,” she added. H-Metro
Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya has dismissed the parallel market rate as a false reflection of the true value of the local currency against major currencies, particularly the greenback.

Speaking to NewsDay Business following his meeting with banking executives on Friday ahead of tomorrow’s launch of the foreign exchange auction system which will do away with the fixed exchange rate of US$1:$25 adopted in March, Mangudya said:
“There was no market. Let me put it this way, there was a false market. This country has a false market. Do you know what a false market is? A false market occurs when prices are manipulated and impacted by erroneous information.”
“So, from where I am coming from there is a false market. If you look at the range of the multiplicity of prices that are being used, that is what tells you it’s a false market. If it was not a false market, at least you would have a stable rate.”
This comes as the market has rejected attempts by the RBZ to impose formal exchange rates, first through the discredited interbank foreign currency exchange rate and then the current fixed rate.
As a result, the market has itself weighted the value of the ZWL against the greenback considering the former lacks adequate foreign currency, mineral or market confidence backing.
Currently, the foreign currency exchange rate on the parallel market is trading at US$1:$90 with fears that it may reach US$1:$100 in the coming few days as the Zimdollar continues to devalue.
As such, the recently announced foreign exchange auction system is supposed to supply a weekly market-determined rate based on bids from market players seeking to purchase the greenback.
Mangudya said the weekly rate that comes out of this auction will be used also for those wishing to exchange their free funds at their banks.
“The success of any auction in the whole world is about its transparency, so we are going to be super transparent. Number two; there is a multiplicity of exchange rates in the market right? If you go to any shop some are using $45, $80 and some are even at $100 (to one United States dollar),” Mangudya said.
“Now, given that situation, Mangudya or any person cannot tell you that the rate should be $40 or $60 and, therefore, the only practical way of knowing is to have those people who are using those rates to come and purchase from the auction using their own rate.”
He added: “We are saying since you are the one who is the market, come and purchase at your own price as opposed to us saying the rate is $70 as an example that is the best way of discovering the exchange rate given the multiplicity of the exchange rates in this country”.
“It’s the best way of coming up with an average weighted price on the basis of what the market player wants.”
He said in the future, should the foreign exchange auction system stabilise inflation, they may consider using a daily exchange rate which is used globally.
The auction will only accept bids for a minimum of US$50 000 and a maximum of US$500 000 from each bidder per auction with the bidding platform being the Reuters Foreign Currency Auction System.
All bids will be in United States dollars. News Day

Felistus Chipendo a.k.a Feli Nandi

Although used to sing in church, Nandi said she never imagined herself doubling as a singer since fashion designing has been her first love.
She opened up to H-Metro on Wednesday as she celebrated her 28th birthday and popularity of her clothing line, Feli Nandi Apparel.
“I attended a wedding ceremony in Norton in 2017 where Mbeu was performing.
“It was also my first time to watch Mbeu perform live and I didn’t know him them.
“I was shocked when he invited me on stage to sing along with him and the guests were awe-struck,” she said.
Nandi said she was further shocked when Mbeu’s manager Eugine Museredza took her details.
“It happened so fast that I was a bit confused that I would become a backing vocalist for Mbeu’s Mhodzi Tribe.
“Mbeu sent me some songs to rehearse alone and the next week I found myself being part of Mhodzi Tribe.
“Mbeu kept on encouraging me to sing and today I am happy to be celebrating my birthday with the guys,” she said.
Nandi who has since released her new single titled Ndega Ndada, which has an accompanying video said she was discovering herself more.
“To date, I now have six singles to my name and Ndega Ndada is my latest and it has a video.

She also called for professionalism among backing vocalists, especially those working with males.
“People will respect you depending on how you carry yourself around and in my case, I now consider Mbeu’s outfit as family.
“We drink and wine together after shows which has also made me feel part of the group.
“The boys treats me like one of their own and that’s why you see that there is chemistry among us on stage wherever I perform.
“It’s hard to convince people that I have been singing for the past three years but that is the reality of the matter,” said.
The mother of two boys – aged seven and four years respectively – said fashion designing was her fall back plan.
She said she has managed to win hearts of many through the designs she make.

Hip Hop artiste Scarfizzo has denied taking on fellow rapper T Gonzi after the release of his controversial new song titled “MaBlot, Jah Love nema Winky D.”
Hip Hop artiste Scarfizzo
Last year, T Gonzi released a song titled “MaEnzo maBazooker nema Pumacol” which did well on the local scene.
The release of Scarfizzo’s new song has evoked speculation that the Mbare based rapper could be having a go at T Gonzi.
However, Scarfizzo popular for hit songs like Zvekudaro and Tsamba kuvakuru said the song was being taken the wrong way by some hip hop fans.
“I hadn’t released something in a short while and it was kind of strategic from my side to go quiet for a while.
“The song is all about announcing my come back.
“It’s a song where I’m making an announcement that I have come back bigger and better hence the names of big artistes like Winky D and Jah Love.
“Those are no doubt some of the biggest and talented artistes we have as a nation and I felt they fit my script of the song very well,” he said.
He added:
“T Gonzi is my brother and have so much respect for him and his music.
“I really liked the style to his song “MaEnzo Bazooker nema Pumacol” and i just felt I could also use the same kind of style but with my own flair.
“The song has nothing to do with T Gonzi but it’s just all about the art.
“What I did with the song is pure art and nothing more to it. ”
Scarfizzo’s said he is already working on the video of the song and will be relaxes in a few weeks to come.
He also promised more new music come summer season. H-Metro
A Dynamos fan, who survived a road accident that claimed nine of other fans as they travelled to watch their team in action four years ago, says it is a miracle to be alive.
Maxwell Machisi
Maxwell Machisi made the revelations when Dynamos, through their supporters chapters around the country, donated to the family of the deceased.
The nine fans perished in June 2016 in Battlefields on their way to Ascot for a date against Chapungu.
Machisi narrated what transpired with tears in his eyes.
“It was a joyous mode that morning. Travelling to support our team brings excitement. As we left Harare early morning we were optimistic not knowing what lies ahead of us.
“It was around 10:30am when the sprinter we were traveling in burst it’s tyre,” said Machisi.
The sprinter had 21 passengers and nine perished – seven on the spot and two upon admission at the hospital.
“The driver lost control. We all panicked and some were shouting advising the driver not to put brakes.
“I lost it and the last thing I remembered was we crashed on a tree. It was an ugly scene.
“Me surviving is a miracle and I am thankful for that,” he added.
Machisi braved on to narrate the incident and now with a smile on his face, he said the most interesting thing is the team went on to win the match. “But we won the match.
“It was a pity we couldn’t celebrate that win since we have lost our fellow brothers and sisters and some of us were battling between life and death in the hospital,” said Machisi.
Machisi also received a food humper and said he was humbled by the gesture by the supporters.
“I would want to thank this family for not abandoning us in the time of need.
“I spent more than half a year in the hospital.
“My kids’ school fees and food are well taken care of. “These people have been with me since day one and for that may God keep on blessing them,” he said. H-Metro
Vice-President Kembo Mohadi and several former government officials have been taken to the High Court by a Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) employee, Pascal Gonzo, who wants them charged for contempt of court after failing to pay him US$80 000 in abduction damages.
Kembo Mohadi
Gonzo was in early December 2008 abducted together with his workmate Broderick Takawira and ZPP director Jestina Mukoko for allegedly plotting to topple the late former President Robert Mugabe’s administration through recruiting people to undergo military training in neighbouring Botswana. At the time, Mohadi was co-Home Affairs minister with Giles Mutsekwa.
According to court papers, Gonzo, Takawira and Mukoko’s whereabouts remained unknown until December 24, 2008, when they first appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court, after weeks of being held incommunicado and being tortured. They were eventually acquitted.
Sometime in November 2019, the High Court ordered the State to pay Gonzo US$80 000 for unlawful arrest and detention, assault, shock, pain and suffering and costs of suit.
But despite the consent order, Mohadi, Mutsekwa, and their co-defendants who included Patrick Chinamasa, Didymus Mutasa, Augustine Chihuri, Paradzai Zimondi, Happyton Bonyongwe and other top police officers failed to implement the order, prompting the current application.
“This is an application for an order holding respondents (Mohadi and others) to be in contempt of court, and bind them over to purge their contempt within a given time frame, failing which a warrant for the committal of their persons to jail may be issued until they purge such contempt,” Gonzo said.
According to Gonzo, the consent order was issued on November 6, 2019 when the amount ought to have been paid within 30 days from October 28, 2019 being the date upon which the parties entered into a deed of settlement to that effect.
“The judgment debt remains unsatisfied despite the lapse of the 30-day period within which it ought to have been settled. There can be no doubt that respondents have knowledge of the judgment, it having been entered into by consent and in view of the deed of settlement entered into between the parties,” he said.
“There can be no doubt that respondents are aware of their obligations to me (Gonzo) and have the necessary details to enable them to fulfil their obligations, but are just unwilling to do so despite the existence of an order by consent directing them to effect the payments in question.” The matter is pending.
