Marvelous Nakamba’s Sheffield Wednesday have been relegated from the Championship to League One (third tier in England).

The club have also made history with the fastest relegation in Football League history with no team ever going down in February before.

Thier fate was confirmed after suffering a 2-1 defeat to rivals Sheffield United. They currently sit on minus seven points. With 13 league games to play, they could become the first team in Football League history to end a campaign on minus points.

Wednesday have been handed a series of points deductions following financial issues under owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The club received a 12-point penalty in October after entering administration amid repeated instances of unpaid wages. In December, Wednesday were docked a further six points for multiple breaches of EFL regulations related to payment obligations.

Sheffield Wednesday’s struggles on the pitch compounded their off-field troubles, with the Owls managing just one win and eight draws this season.

Their relegation from the Championship after three seasons was confirmed in dramatic fashion, as archrivals sealed the result that ended Wednesday’s stay in the division.
