Meanwhile on Friday the MDC Youth Assembly held a prayer meeting in celebration of the life of the late Amai Susan Tsvangirai at the party headquarters.

Susan died in a car accident on 6 March 2009 when the vehicle she was travelling in with her husband was sideswiped on their way to Buhera.

Speaking after the prayer meeting, MDC Vice President Thokozani Khupe saluted Amai Tsvangirai for her heroic standing in support of the struggle for democracy and good governance.

Khupe said that Amai Tsvangirai was a worker, an organiser, a manager, an advisor, and a nation builder.  She said Amai Tsvangirai was a loving woman who always welcomed MDC members into her home regardless of their positions in the party.

Khupe added she had moved a motion in parliament and is pushing for the adoption of the International Day of Women, which falls on 8 March, as a national holiday.

Tsvangirai’s deputy said that it is important for the nation to recognise the importance of women as game changers in society.
