Police in Victoria Falls swooped on a council meeting and arrested about 7 MDC-T councillors all of whom were meant to be sworn in today around 5:30pm. The council also has about 3 members from Zanu PF.

We are still trying to piece together all the details but we understand Mags Varley who was elected Mayor at a caucus meeting and Ephias Mambume, Deputy Mayor, were among those arrested as Zanu PF continues its crackdown following disputed elections last month.

In the morning Nehanda Radio received a tip off that there were plans to disrupt the swearing in ceremony and torpedo the installation of the mayor.

Victoria Falls Mayor, councillor Somveli Dhlamini (MDC-T) was arrested on Thursday by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over alleged fraud involving the parceling out of State land.
