Post elections: prayer, not politics, is key to national flourishing

Opinion by Bishop Dave Chikosi

I was on my treadmill yesterday morning minding my own business when God interrupted my workout. He spoke to me. He whispered, ever so gently, and said: “One of the Church’s main tasks is air traffic control.”

Having been an airport manager (the first Black APM at Bulawayo Airport, Zimbabwe) I know something about Air Traffic Control (ATC). This is why God spoke to me in that lingo. He knew I would immediately get it. And I did.

The purpose of ATC is to direct air traffic both in airspace and on the ground. Directing air traffic is important in preventing accidents and incidents in the air and on the ground. It is ATC’s job to organize and promote the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic to avoid loss of human life and property.

Similarly, it is the responsibility of the Church to monitor the activities taking place in the heavenly realm. She (the Church) does this from the vantage point of the Throne Room of God to which only she has access 24/7. This is her Control Room from which she directs, via prayer, both demonic and angelic activity on earth.

The Church has the power to “bind and to loose.” Some spiritual activities in the unseen realm she must prohibit, while others she must promote and facilitate.

The Duality of Existence

Whether we like it or not, know it or not, we live in two worlds. We live simultaneously in a physical/material/seen world as well a metaphysical/spirit/unseen world. The spirit world created the physical world. Therefore the spirit world is more real and more powerful than the material. No matter how educated or civilized a person becomes, no one can escape this duality of existence. We are all affected one way or the other by the world of the unseen.

The Bible calls satan “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2). He is also called the “ruler of this world” (John 12:31). This is the default position. Satan will lord it over a region, nation or city to the degree that the Church in that community abdicates its mandate to “rule and reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).

Where the Church allows diabolos free reign, society’s religious, governmental, educational, commercial, traditional and cultural systems will be corrupted, too often under the guise of progressivism so called. This is why it’s critical that the Church control traffic in the heavenlies.

Let’s define the heavenlies. The Bible speaks of three heavenly realms. The first Heavens is a reference to the firmament or the earth’s atmosphere. This is the immediate sky.

Then there is the second Heaven. This is the abode of demonic spirits. St Paul writes about this:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).

High places (Greek “epouranios”) can also be translated “lower heavens.”

Lastly, there is the third Heavens where God, the holy angels and spirits of just men dwell. This is the realm where St Paul was caught up to and “heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell” (2 Cor 12:4).

But the second Heaven is what concerns us here, for therein dwell principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. These wicked spirits can, and often do, exercise evil control over regions, nations and cities.

There are what are called “ruling/territorial spirits” that have been assigned from hell to cripple and then choke nations to death. They are responsible for causing unending civil wars genocide, natural disasters, blighting poverty, economic malaise, political misgovernance, tribal strife and retarded national development.

Good Angels on Assignment

The goal is to take over nations in such a way that the voice of God in the land is completely silenced and heaven’s agenda for the people aborted. God has angels on assignment to rescue nations like Zimbabwe from their economic and political woes. But there are evil angels also assigned to block the divine agenda.

In the Book of Daniel a holy angel on assignment met so much opposition from the powers of darkness that the angel had to enlist the assistance of Michael the archangel, to fight these powers off  (Daniel 10:12-14). This is how determined satan is to block divine revelation responsible for national flourishing.

The Church must go back to air traffic control. Only she has the legitimate mandate to “bind and loose” all illegal traffic activity in the second Heavens. No the institution on earth has the legal mandate and power to do this.

If the Church defaults, witches and warlocks will step in to fill the void. The world of the occult is very aware of this concept of the duality of existence. They get it. This is why they often attempt to illegally control the atmosphere over cities and villages.

The women arrested by the police in Harare this week are just one example of this. A lot of people find stories like that hilarious. But if your spiritual eyes were opened you would discover it’s not that funny. This is very serious business.

The spirit world is real my friend. You ignore it to your detriment. That doesn’t mean we should be afraid of it or go looking for demons behind every corner or under our beds. It means we should find out from scripture how to effectively reign over the unseen world as well as how to rein in vagrant ruling spirits that operate from a number of traditional shrines that exist in the country.

Now back to the Control Room.
