HARARE – A Budiriro man will rue the day he gave his wife a thrashing after he was thrown behind bars for 11 months. Tungamirai Kureva, 28, appeared before Mbare magistrate Precious Muzondo.

Muzondo condemned Tungamirai’s conduct and slapped him with a 15 month jail term. Four months were however suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining 11 months for Tungamirai will have to serve.
Tungamirai is said to have attacked his wife Maria Chazireni, 28, leaving her unconscious with a broken jaws.
The court heard that on January 20 at around 9pm, Maria asked her husband why he did not come home for the past two days. It was proved that this did not go down well with Tungamirai who then kicked his wife on the chest.
Upon realising that his wife had been injured and unconscious, Tungamirai took Maria to her brother’s place of residence in Budiriro 5. As a result of the brawl, Maria sustained injuries on her jaws as well as suffering chest pains.
She was then referred to Harare Central Hospital where a medical affidavit was obtained and produced in court. Lawrence Gangarahwe appeared for the state.
