A disturbing video has surfaced allegedly showing the Zanu-PF chairman for Mutasa district engaging in a physical altercation with his wife over a disputed US$5 that he allegedly said was meant for his beer.
The chairman, whose identity has not been disclosed, can be seen clenched in a fistfight with his wife, with both individuals visibly bleeding from the mouth.
In the background, a woman’s voice can be heard attempting to intervene and stop the fight, but her efforts appear to be in vain. The video is distressing and suggests a deeper issue of domestic violence and abuse.
The video has sparked outrage and calls for accountability, with many questioning how someone in a position of leadership can engage in such behaviour.
In an interview with Nehanda Radio, Zanu-PF, director of information Farai Marapira, said the ruling party and its leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa do not condone any violence.
“What can be seen in the video is a clear case of domestic violence. As Zanu-PF our policy towards violence of any kind is clear as has been enunciated by His Excellency, President E. D. Mnangagwa time and time again.
“We do not condone any violence and encourage all citizens to adhere to the wisdom of His Excellency in finding peaceful resolutions to disputes of any nature,” he said.
“As a party, we institute our own investigations into any cases of illegality allegedly perpetrated by members.
“As Zanu-PF, our members have an extra obligation to adhere to the dictates of the law. We do condone any such actions and we shall stand guided by police investigations,” Marapira said.
