NYANGA – A 41-year-old man, Farai Michael Madotsa, has been charged with murder after allegedly torturing his wife, Penelope Yeukai Nyabanga, for almost an hour before she succumbed to her injuries.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on the 28th of May 2024, the accused person got home and retired to bed together with his wife.

“Later that evening, the accused person was alerted by a cell phone ringing outside their bedroom, prompting him to investigate. He saw an unknown male person who upon sight, ran away. This led the accused person to harbor suspicions of infidelity against his wife,” the NPA said.

When Madotsa confronted his wife, she denied the allegations and he slapped her thrice in the face.

“She confessed and showed him where she used to have sexual relations with her boyfriend. She also led him to a broken down motor vehicle where she showed him unused condoms. The accused person picked up a log and ordered her to lie on the ground facing down.

“He assaulted her several times on the body and went on to pour water on her at intervals. He allegedly assaulted her for an hour before he took her inside the bedroom and placed her on the cold floor where she eventually died,” the NPA noted.

The accused person was remanded in custody.

In another case, Simon Karimbika (25) and Russel Prince Masanga (30) from Zinyaka Village, Chief Zvimba area, appeared before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court facing murder charges.

The State alleges that the duo brutally attacked and killed a man after he made a comment that did not sit well with them.

According to the prosecution, on May 2, 2024, at around 10 pm, the accused persons and the deceased were outside Lions Bar Chikuti, warming themselves by the fire.

The bar had closed, and the accused persons were discussing an incident involving their friend who was assaulted by a female sex worker. The deceased made a comment that sparked the attack.

The accused persons allegedly used fists, a stone, and a wooden stick to assault the deceased until he became unconscious. They then dragged his body across the Harare-Chirundu highway and continued to assault him until he died.

After the brutal attack, they proceeded to a nearby shopping center to continue drinking.

The lifeless body of the deceased was discovered the next morning by a child going to school, who informed the elders.
