Assaulting mom earns violent 37-year-old son 10 months behind bars

Masvingo – A 37-year-old man from Zimuto district, Masvingo province will spend the next 10 months behind bars for assaulting his mother with clenched fists.

Provincial magistrate Elizabeth Hanzie convicted Galvin Mukoshozo of Muzenda village under chief Zimuto, for contravening sections of the Domestic Violence Act on his own plea of guilty.

Prosecutor Precious Takuva told the court that on December 18 last year at around 8pm a drunken Galvin arrived home and assaulted his mother Merjury Mukozho with clenched fists five times on the head after learning that she had prevented his younger brother, Nigel Mukozho from delivering river sand to the homestead of Herbert Muzenda as he had instructed.

The magistrate sentenced Mukozho to an effective 10 months after taking into account previous convictions that he had for similar offences involving violence. New Ziana
