Do you remember that time when musician Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave was attacked, criticised, judged and bullied for her dressing and collaboration with Zimdancehall artist Killer T?

Many laughed at her, her pictures were butchered and photoshopped and she was called names and given the tag ‘good girl gone bad’.

She was on spotlight for performing in clubs and wearing “raunchy” clothes on stage

Some even went as far as claiming that she had lost it in her career.

But this did not stop the award-winning musician from doing what she knows best, which is music.

Currently holding eight awards, Fungisai has done international tours, released a successful album and is preparing for the United Kingdom Summer festival which is fast approaching.

In an interview, Fungisai said although people criticised her, she always knew that she was destined for greatness.

“I have always believed that my dream shall come true and that it shall not die. My faith in God and His promises are so true that I do not accept defeat from whatever negative force,” said Fungisai.

During the tough times she went through, Fungisai at some point threatened to quit music.

“I have never been so confident of myself and now I know quitting music is not my blood. I am determined to shine for my family, husband, children and everyone who has contributed and supported this new ‘church person’ label,” she said.

Fungisai also said that she does not hold any grudges against people who attacked her.

“I don’t hold anything against them since they had misunderstood me. They did not know, but now I know that their attitude has changed as facts unfolded to them,” she said.

This time around Fungisai is determined to take her music career to another level.

“I am ready to take my space as a woman and Christian in the male and circular dominated industry,” said Fungisai. The Herald
