LONDON – UK based former Zimbabwe Warriors player Memory Mucherahowa has voiced deep concern over the growing drug and substance abuse problem plaguing his boyhood suburb of Mufakose in Harare.

The former Dynamos captain expressed sorrow over the state of his childhood neighborhood.

This follows a tragic incident in which a 27-year-old man, Prince Ncube, allegedly stabbed his brother Pardon to death during a dispute reportedly over a girlfriend on Wednesday.

The incident is said to have occurred while the two were playing snooker at Gwenyambira Shopping Centre.

The fatal dispute allegedly involved a woman identified as Phillipa.

Reacting to the incident, Mucherahowa posted on his Facebook page: “My Hood is burning. Drugs have destroyed Mufakose. Just four months into the new year, we have had five people killed all because of drugs.”

He went on to question the source of the substances flooding the community.

“ARIKUMBOBVEPI madrugs aya?” (Where are these drugs coming from?),” he added.

Drug and substance abuse have become alarmingly widespread in Zimbabwe, particularly among unemployed youth.

Efforts to combat the crisis have faced challenges, with some suspected drug lords allegedly enjoying protection due to links with powerful individuals.

This has allowed them to operate smoothly.
