Zimbabwean youngster Dakarai Mafico this past weekend, signed his first professional contract with his club Cardiff City after an impressive season with the U18s and U21s.
The club took to its website to confirm the deal for Mafico who is the son to veteran football commentator Steve Vickers’ niece.
“Dakarai Mafico has extended his stay following a season of real progress in the 2023/24 campaign.
“After making an impression for the U18s and U21s, the midfielder was included on the First Team bench on the final day of the season against Rotherham United,” City announced.
The 17-year old was born in Wales to Zimbabwean parents.
He has already played for Wales U19s but is still eligible to turn out for the Zimbabwe senior national team.
Mafico signed the deal just a few days after another promising Zimbabwean youngster in Tanatswa Nyakuhwa also signed his first professional contract with Cardiff City.
The young striker is among twelve Cardiff City academy players who signed professional contracts last week.
