HARARE – South Africa Premiership club Mpumalanga Black Aces have placed R15million (about USD1.5m) prize tag on Tendai Ndoro after the Zimbabwean striker attracted interest from Greek champions Olympiakos.

South African media reports that the Warriors forward, who scored seven goals in the Absa Premiership after only joining AmaZayoni in January, has been on the radar of several European clubs, although it is Olympiakos who are said to be ready with an offer.

Newly-crowned South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns are also interesting in adding the powerful centre-forward to their squad, but they are likely to lose out to the record Greek champions on the transfer market.

Ndoro was signed by Mpumalanga Black Aces mid-season from Bulawayo club Chicken Inn after ending the Zimbabwean season as the Golden Boot winner with 18 goals.

The 26-year old Ndoro is just one of several rising stars in Zimbabwean football at present and is viewed as one of key players in the Warriors’ quest to qualify for next year’s African Nations Cup finals.

A transfer to one of European football’s most recognised names will be a dream move for a player who was playing in the Botswana league only two years ago.

Olympiakos are keen to bolster their squad for next season’s domestic competitions and the European Champions League, and sources say the Zimbabwean hitman has been earmarked by the club’s Spanish coach Michel as a perfect striking partner for former Argentina and Barcelona striker Javier Saviola.

Olympiakos have recently won a record 41st championship in Greece, finishing 17 points ahead of second-placed PAOK.

If Ndoro makes the cut, he will become the second Zimbabwean expected to play European Champions League football next season after former Masvingo United defender Costa Nhomoinesu, who is fresh from winning the league title in the Czech Republic with Sparta Prague. Daily News
