LIVERPOOL- Gospel hotshot Walter Chahwanda, (22) has released a tantalizing debut single that is set to cement his status as music royalty in the already overcrowded gospel market.
The hit song, Oh Give Thanks extracted from his upcoming album More Of You is a pure testimony that the young man is here to stay.
The impressive delivery on the track has already notched him a decent 2 571 hits on YouTube within a month of its release. The video is already receiving massive airplay on Klear TV, a station – which broadcasts on SKY Digital’s Channel 232 popular for its Afro-Caribbean slant.
This writer caught up with the young Psalmist in his port city of Liverpool to discuss the success of the single and his future plans. The hit single was produced and directed by Farhaan Khan aka Mr Boomslang or Kazz , one half of award-winning pop duo, Bkay and Kazz of the Amina Kadeya fame.
Walter describes the vibe on set when they shot the video as a surreal moment.
“Shooting my first ever video buoyed by my own home crowd made the whole experience special. Kazz was an absolute professional and was on point in the direction and vision behind the shoot”, added the gospel crooner.
The video begins with Walter in the back of his parents’ Bentley enroute to church where he flawlessly delivers the piece in his exquisite and soulful voice.
Later on we got on to sample the whole album which is interlaced with soulful, Salsa and Afro- beat which makes an album for every occasion and every family member. The album has an appeal to both gospel and non gospel aficionados.
Leaving after the interview I was left with one conclusion: The name Walter Chahwanda is a name that will be heard for years to come.
