Lovemore Benyu was only rescued by cleaners at his workplace when he arrived for work in his ‘birth suit’ after Nyaradzo Chikonore tore apart his clothes.

Narrating his ordeal before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti at the Harare Civil court, Benyu said he was living in fear of his second wife and he wanted a protection order.

“Nyaradzo is my former lover and we had a child together. Sometime in October last year, she came and dumped the child at my house. On a separate day, she came and dived in front of my car whilst it was in motion. She held on to the bonnet of the car and later jumped inside the car,” he said.

Benyu said he was forced to approach the court seeking sanctuary after he was forced to drive to work naked following a heated misunderstanding with Nyaradzo.

“I was surprised to see her charging towards me and ripped apart my shirt. She tore apart my pair of trousers leaving me naked. On the day in question, I was forced to drive to work naked much to the shock of my workmates. Cleaners helped me with clothes,” he said.

In her response, Nyaradzo said she once stayed with Benyu at her place in Kambuzuma until he invited her to stay with him at his house. She blamed Benyu for failing to come open and tell his first wife that he had another wife.

“The problem here is that he is afraid of his wife and the unknown. I am currently staying at the same house with his first wife whom I suspect influenced him to seek a protection order against me,” she said.

Commenting on the incident when she attacked her husband, Nyaradzo said “It was after he tried to go away from me without leaving anything for the child”.
