A 33-year-old Harare man allegedly fatally assaulted his wife with a knobkerrie over suspicions of infidelity. Sebastian Satero of plot number 16 Danbury Farm in Marlborough accused his wife, Rennie Jakarasi of having an extra marital affair and a misunderstanding arose.
Satero, it is alleged, struck his wife with a knobkerrie several times all over her body, resulting in her death.
He was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei charged with murder and was remanded in custody to December 12. Mr Ndirowei advised him to apply for bail at the High Court due to the gravity of the offence.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleged that sometime in May this year, Satero married Jakarasi and the two stayed together. It is alleged that during their stay together, Satero accused Jakarasi of seeing other men.
On September 29 at around 3am, Satero awakened Jakarasi and started assaulting her with a knobkerrie.
She sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. In a bid to cover up the offence, Satero removed Jakarasi’s blood stained clothes and burnt them together with the knobkerrie. He then fled leaving Jakarasi’s body lying on the ground.
The matter came to light when their neighbour, Juliet Nyadongo heard Jakarasi’s three-year-old daughter crying and went to investigate. She saw Jakarasi lying dead on the floor with injuries all over her body.
Nyadongo alerted the police who then took Jakarasi’s body to Parirenyatwa Hospital for postmortem. Satero was arrested on November 26 and confessed to killing his wife.
