Another English team swoop for Bhasera

By Edward Marange

First it was Portsmouth, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday and now Championship side Plymouth Argyle will become the fourth English team trying to sign Zimbabwean left back Onismor Bhasera.

Bhasera first caught the eye of former Portsmouth manager Paul Hart when he went for trials at Fratton Park.

First a work permit issue delayed his move, then his South African club Kaiser Chiefs claimed he was still contracted to them and not a free agent as he claimed.

When all this was resolved Pompey were in a financial meltdown and barred from signing players by the football authorities.

Rangers (where Hart moved to briefly) and Wednesday came knocking for him but nothing materialised in the end. Now Plymouth Argyle have swooped for the player and are already applying for a work permit for him.

Bhasera impressed the club during his two-week trial last month and an independent tribunal will now hear the club’s permit application as early as this week.

He is also a free agent after finally cutting ties with Kaiser Chiefs. Nehanda Radio.
