Zimbabwe’s senior men’s national football team will be searching for a new head coach after Marian Mario Marinica stepped down just five months into his tenure.

The Zimbabwe Football Association confirmed the Romanian coach’s resignation on Monday, stating that his decision to leave the Warriors was due to personal reasons.

Marinica’s short spell in charge saw him oversee approximately seven matches, including international friendlies against Algeria and Qatar. Those fixtures formed part of Zimbabwe’s build-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals scheduled to take place in Morocco.

His exit comes at a critical moment for the national side, which is preparing for the upcoming Unity Cup — a four-nation tournament set to be held in the United Kingdom during the next FIFA international window.

ZIFA has not yet announced who will take over the role on an interim or permanent basis as preparations for the tournament continue.
