Matonga to face culpable homicide trial

Former Information Minister Bright Matonga will go on trial in January next year facing culpable homicide charges.

The Mhondoro-Ngezi MP was behind some of the most vicious election violence in his area during the June 2008 Presidential run-off.

Matonga is this case is accused of causing the death of two people in a road accident along the Harare-Masvingo highway way back in July 2004.

The two who died were his relatives Chipo Chikoore and Never Matavata.

Driving a Nissan Hardbody double cab vehicle Matonga then an employee of state owned bus company ZUPCO is said to have hit a beast which had already been injured by another car.

He is then alleged to have lost control of the vehicle, swerved before ramming into a tree on the side of the road.

Matavata died on the spot while Chikoore was rushed to Harare Hospital where she died on admission.

The bodies were later ferried to Marondera Hospital where a post-mortem was conducted.
