Mjobisa Noko, the Zapu spokesperson was responding to Mphoko’s utterances at a campaign rally in Bulawayo last weekend where he claimed that Zapu President Dumiso Dabengwa had tarnished his name by breaking ranks with Zanu PF, insinuating that he no longer qualified to be regarded as a liberation war hero.

Noko said Mphoko had “lost his marbles” and that “his huge physical frame is devoid of the much-needed wisdom crucial for a progressive leader to possess in trying to discredit one of the most decorated men in the land.”

Zapu said Zanu PF was on a campaign to obliterate the former Zipra intelligence supremo’s liberation war credentials.

Noko claimed that the current Zanu PF leadership was jealous of the Zapu leader’s war record and that the party was still haunted by Dabengwa’s departure to revive Zapu.

“It has come to our attention that Mphoko and his Zanu cabal led by Robert Mugabe are seeing shadows of Dabengwa at every turn.

“It, however, remains boldly imprinted in the minds of every Zimbabwean of whichever generation that the role played by Dabengwa during the liberation struggle is unmatched.

“It should be considered that Dabengwa has a track record that a lot of the Zanu thugs envy and the very reason that they spiritedly but fruitlessly try and soil his humble but lofty political and liberation credentials.”

Noko added that Dabengwa voluntarily resigned from Zanu PF in 2008 owing to the party’s alleged corrupt tendencies because he was a forthright man. He urged the ruling party to work on cleaning up its “battered” image and be tolerant of opposing views.

“It hence also follows that our 70-year-old youth Absalom Sikhosana must desist from this slogan which calls for the death of Dabengwa,” Noko said.

“Instead, Dabengwa himself as a credible man will never wish for the death of any man or Zimbabwean but will always wish for the collective success of Zimbabweans.” Daily News
