People in Domboshava are mourning businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, reminiscing on the love he had for the rural community, which was taking a new shape because of his philanthropic works.
Village head Davis Kadungure
Ginimbi was killed in a car accident, together with three others, early on Sunday along Liberation Legacy Way on his way home from an outing.
The community has described him as a saviour who helped them in all respects.
Ginimbi constructed a tarred road from Domboshava Showgrounds Shopping Centre to his house in Nyamande Village, a development which the residents said upgraded the once looked down upon village.
He connected electricity from the shopping centre to his house with all houses along the line being connected to the power lines and benefiting for free as he paid the electricity bills.
A visit to the village by The Herald Arts crew revealed that Ginimbi was being viewed as a “saviour” by the community.
Village head Mr Davis Kadungure said Ginimbi did a lot for the community and described him as a “hero”.
“I am the village head, but to Ginimbi, his father and I are brothers,” he said. “My nephew was a humble and loving person. He had an open-door policy and did not select who to assist. He has helped the Domboshava community at large as he created employment for school leavers and even those old enough to be his fathers. We have lost a leader, son and friend.”
Mr Kadungure said all people were welcome to attend Ginimbi’s funeral, but should adhere to the burial arrangements as he wished.
Ms Esnath Muniri, one of Ginimbi’s neighbours, said she was hurt by his death.
Her husband, Succeed Bingura (35), was Ginimbi’s employee.
“He gave my husband a job and is he currently working in Mt Pleasant as a security guard,” said Ms Muniri. “I last saw Ginimbi on Saturday morning as he passed by my house. He used to hoot each time he passed, but I had never met him face-to-face.
A 22-year-old man, Tino Nyamoto, who sells his wares along Liberation Legacy Way said Ginimbi used to give them some money.
“Boss Ginimbi was a real boss,” he said. “He had a lovable character.
“I remember showing him my drawings of his car and he laughed, but this time he didn’t give me some money.
“The other day he passed by with some beautiful girls and said, “artist wangu ndeipi” and they bought cool drinks for US$10.
“We both laughed, I said mbinga.”
Webster Mazai from Nyamande Village said Ginimbi was a humble person, while Viola Usaihwevhu, who is in her late 50s, said because of Ginimbi, the face of Domboshava had changed.
Ginimbi will be buried at his mansion in Domboshava on Saturday. The Herald

Warriors skipper Knowledge Musona says they feel they can collect some points in the back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Algeria.
HOME SWEET HOME . . . .Warriors skipper Knowledge Musona leads his troops, Tendayi Darikwa and Adam Chicksen, shortly after arrival at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport yesterday
The Smiling Assassin arrived in the country yesterday aboard the same flight with the England-based trio of Tendayi Darikwa, Adam Chicksen and Jordan Zemura.
This will be Zimbabwe’s first competitive international assignment since last November when they upstaged Zambia 2-1 in their backyard.
“It always feels good to come back home and represent the country,” he told The Herald.
“We are looking forward to the upcoming games against Algeria.
“There isn’t much to say. We just have to do it, not to talk. We have to go there and try to play the game to win and, of course, when they come here we also have to aim to win.
“So, we are going to do our best as a team. We just want to promise our fans that we are going to do everything we can to collect some points in these two games.’’
The 30-year-old forward played a leading role in Zimbabwe’s qualification in the previous two editions of the AFCON finals in Gabon and Egypt.
Musona combined twice with Khama Billiat when Zimbabwe beat hosts Zambia 2-1 in Lusaka to move second in Group H with four points.
Algeria lead the race, on six points, following wins over both Zambia and Botswana.
The Desert Foxes are unbeaten in their last 20 games in all competitions in a period stretching two years.
Their last home match, in an AFCON qualifier was a five-goal destruction of Chipolopolo in Algeria.
However, in their second match against Botswana, they showed they were human, too, as they struggled to win 1-0 in Gaborone.
Star forward, Riyad Mahrez, did not play in that match against the Zebras but is available for the duel against the Warriors.
Matches between Zimbabwe and Algeria, however, have produced interesting results with their last meeting at the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon ending in a 2-2 stalemate.
Musona was part of the game but only lasted 12 minutes after suffering an injury.
The captain was also joined at the airport yesterday by new Orlando Pirates hotshot Terrence Dzvukamanja, who had arrived earlier from South Africa.
There was boundless joy for Zemura, who was met at the airport by ecstatic members of his family.
The 20-year-old has experienced a phenomenal rise in the last two seasons, and was recently handed his first team cap at English Championship side, Bournemouth.
This is the first time that the fullback has joined the Warriors for national team duty.
Interestingly, he will be turning 21 on Thursday when Zimbabwe play Algeria.
The rising star, who can play either right or left back, says representing Zimbabwe has always been his dream.
“Currently, I am transitioning into breaking into the first team and playing competitively,’’ he told our sister newspaper, The Sunday Mail, at the weekend.
‘’So, at the moment, I am ready and can’t wait for the opportunity (to play for the Warriors.
“It is something that I have always wanted to do.
“I received the call-up from the manager and had a good conversation with him, and now things are looking good and I want to be part of this team).’’
Scotland-based David Moyo and Adam Chicksen are also looking to have their full national team caps.
Musona said he was delighted by the commitment shown by some Zimbabwean players born and raised in the Diaspora towards playing for their mother country.
“I am glad that they are here and we welcome them. They are part of our team and they are Zimbabweans,’’ he said.
‘’So, we just want to welcome them to the team and make sure that they adapt quickly to the new environment and also to the new teammates that they are going to meet.
“It’s very important that they get a good feeling in training and in camp. I would like to say they are really welcome.’’
The players immediately headed for camp were they joined a small group of early birds that included goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, Divine Lunga, Ovidy Karuru, Prince Dube, Alec Mudimu and Talbert Shumba.
Also expected yesterday was Khama Billiat, Jimmy Dzingai, Tafadzwa Rusike, Kuda Mahachi and Scotland-based forward, David Moyo.
The last batch, which features Teenage Hadebe and Marshall Munetsi, is expected today.
Warriors coach, Zdravko Logarusic, has been conducting some training sessions with those who have been in camp since Sunday.
The Warriors are expected to leave for Algeria tonight.

FILE PICTURE of Genius "Ginimbi" Kadungure at one of his all-white parties

Mourners who will attend businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure’s burial at his mansion in Domboshava on Saturday are expected to wear all-white, synonymous with his trademark dressing for the lavish parties he used to host.
FILE PICTURE of Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure at one of his all-white parties
His family confirmed the requirement, saying it was part of his funeral plan.
In an interview with The Herald Arts, Ginimbi’s eldest sister, Juliet, said her brother used to tell them that he wanted a huge send-off.
“Genius was a fun-loving character,” she said. “He always reminded us about how he wanted his funeral to be conducted. In fact, he had a plan and always said “ndiri big”, so make sure on my funeral, you do not hurriedly bury me.
“Take time, planning for it. Check my requirements well and one of the things is that I want everyone who will be at my funeral to be dressed in all white, no matter who. Please, make sure you emphasise that, remember, I am an all-white guy. The all-white should be on the day of burial.”
Juliet said according to the plan, they will have to wait for his other friends who are abroad to arrive for the burial.
“He would say, make sure you get in touch with my other friends abroad and wait for them to come,” she said.
“That is why we are saying for now the funeral will begin on Thursday and for now people are gathered at our father’s residence which is 400 metres away from Ginimbi’s mansion.
“We have set up a tent because there are lots of people coming from all walks of life and we could not accommodate them at the mansion.”
Juliet said there will be two tents pitched for the wake.
“There will be a tent for friends and fans, then a VIP tent,” she said.
“He will be buried on Saturday in his yard as he wished to. It is very difficult for us as a family and we kindly request the public to respect us and avoid spreading malicious rumours.
“For now, we have put a family spokesperson who is Clement Kadungure. Anything you hear which is not from him, is not true.”
Juliet said the family was not barring people from mourning Ginimbi at his mansion, as being reported on social media, but the reason why the funeral was on the other side was to accommodate everyone.
“You may think the yard is big, but it is not big to accommodate everyone as you know many people are coming,” she said.
“Like I said, we decided to pitch tents at the open space near my father’s house. It is also for the security of the house.”
Juliet said Ginimbi always wished for his house to be turned into a museum or a hotel upon his demise.
“We are going to invite some local artistes so they will perform on Friday when his body lies in state at his mansion,” she said.
“Remember, Genius owned G-Entertainment where he promoted some local artistes, so we will do his wishes and they will also be dressed in white.”
Chief executive officer of Ginimbi’s G4K security company Dr Peter Gwaza, said some people were coming with the intention of stealing Ginimbi’s property.
“We have already caught two people who had stolen plastic chairs,” he said. “Again, the house has a lot of property that needs to be protected. I respect the decision by the family to have the funeral outside the mansion.” The Herald
Two more people close to US President Donald Trump tested positive for the coronavirus, media reports said Monday.
Ben Carson, US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, has tested positive for the coronavirus, the latest in a string of senior Trump administration official to contract the potentially deadly disease
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson. 69, has contracted the virus, his deputy chief of staff Coalter Baker told NPR.
“He is in good spirits and feels fortunate to have access to effective therapeutics which aid and markedly speed his recovery,” Baker said in a statement.
According to ABC television, Carson was briefly treated at Walter Reid military hospital outside Washington DC, where Trump himself was treated for the virus.
Carson had spent Tuesday evening at the White House watching the election results come in.
Another top aide to the president, David Bossie, was also at the White House event and tested positive on Sunday and has been self-isolating at home, NBC news said.
Bossie, 55, was tapped a few days ago to lead the president’s legal challenges to the election results.
On Friday, media reported that Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows had tested positive for the disease after the election,. It was not clear when he contracted the virus.
The Washington Post said Meadows was in the crowd in the White House when Trump addressed around 150 of his staff and supporters on Wednesday.
Several leading members of the administration have contracted the virus in recent weeks, including Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump.
The United States had recorded 238,000 deaths by Monday night and more than 10 million people have been infected.
The pandemic was one of the main issues in the battle for the White House between Trump and former vice president Joe Biden, whom media projected to have won on Saturday. AFP.
Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o is stable in hospital after he was involved in a shocking car accident, in Cameroon, according to reports.
Ex-Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o in hospital after car accident
The striker was said to have been driving home from a wedding in his native Cameroon when his car was hit by a bus on the morning on Sunday, November 8.
Eto’o, 39, suffered a head injury and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
However, it is suggested the former Chelsea man is recovering well under close attention from doctors.
Cameroonian journalist Martin Camus tweeted a picture of Eto’o’s apparent destroyed motor alongside the caption, “The crushed car Samuel Eto’o was in.
“I can confirm that he is fine, we spoke again. Doctors taking care of additional examinations.”
Both BBC News Pidgin and Goal reported on the crash and while there has been no official word from Eto’o, the BBC have quoted a close relation.
The picture shows Eto’o’s car smashed from the front and was perhaps lucky to escape without further injuries. Euro Weekly News
South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe will contest the Confederation of African Football presidency election next March, the South African Football Association (SAFA) announced Monday.
CAF presidency candidate and South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe made his fortune in mining
He owns Pretoria-based Mamelodi Sundowns, who have been among the top 10 clubs in Africa for some years and completed a South African treble last season.
His decision raises to three the number of candidates for the top job in African football with incumbent Ahmad Ahmad from Madagascar and Jacques Anouma from the Ivory Coast also in the race.
Ahmad said last month that he would seek a second four-year term after ending the 29-year reign of Cameroonian Issa Hayatou with a stunning 34 votes to 20 triumph three years ago.
Anouma, who was prevented from bidding for the CAF presidency in 2013 when a Hayatou-inspired move lead to a rule change that barred the Ivorian, announced his candidacy at the weekend.
Motsepe did not attend a media conference in Johannesburg where the announcement was made as he is in quarantine having contracted the coronavirus.
SAFA president Danny Jordaan made the announcement with South African sports minister Nathi Mthethwa also attending.
“He is the most appropriate person we could offer for the leadership of CAF. We do not want any compromise on governance or ethics in football,” said CAF third vice-president Jordaan.
The presidents of the Nigerian and Sierra Leone football associations, Amaju Pinnick and Isha Johansen, were in Johannesburg for the announcement.
Pinnick, who hinted last month that he might contest the presidency, confirmed he is not a contender and will back Motsepe instead.
A former CAF vice-president, Pinnick was fired by Ahmad after disagreements over the direction the Cairo-based CAF was taking.
Motsepe, a former lawyer who is married to a sister of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, became wealthy through various mining deals. AFP
The late businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure was buried at his mansion.... which will also be turned into a hotel
By Nyashadzashe Ndoro
Darlington Kadungure, a brother to the late flamboyant socialite Genius affectionately known as Ginimbi, who died in a horror car accident along Borrowdale Road in Philadelphia, Harare, Sunday morning, said the his brother’s Domboshava mansion will be turned into a hotel as per his wish.
Ginimbi to be buried at his mansion…. which will also be turned into a hotel
His father Anderson, also confirmed that Ginimbi will be buried at the mansion.
Ginimbi (36) died when his Rolls-Royce Wraith collided head-on with a Honda Fit while driving back to his Domboshava home in the company of Limumba Karim, believed to be of Malawian origin, Elisha and fitness trainer-cum-video-vixen Michelle “Mimi Moana” Amuli — who all died after being burnt beyond recognition.
They were all coming from Moana’s 26th birthday party at Ginimbi’s Club Dreams.
Ginimbi’s relative said his house will be turned into a hotel.
“You know with what has been talked about his wealth, (that he acquired it through unorthodox means), Ginimbi is on record saying no one would occupy his house. He told people that it should be turned into a hotel.
“He used to say he would want a mausoleum to be built for him such that he will always be remembered by many generations who would visit the hotel,” a family member told NewsDay.
Ginimbi’s father said his son is going to be buried at his mansion as per his wish.
“It was his wish to be given a befitting send off and he took his time to inform us how to fulfill it.
“Ginimbi will be buried at his homestead where he is expecting us to make it a resort place where locals and foreigners would visit.
“He told us to build a statue at the homestead and also wanted us to allow all his friends to witness the burial.
“Because of that we are expecting his body by Friday after postmortem carried and bury him Saturday.
“Mourners will be gathered at his father’s house to allow undertakers to prepare the grave.
“Family members and few others will be allowed to enter the gate to allow undertakers do their work without interference,” said Kadungure. Nehanda Radio
Hopewell Chin'ono and his defence team that includes Beatrice Mtetwa
By Nyashadzashe Ndoro
Incarcerated journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has told the court that the essence of a tweet he is being charged with was inspired by the need to expose how corruption in the mineral sector is impacting negatively on Zimbabwe’s economic progress, Nehanda Radio can report.
Hopewell Chin’ono and his defence team that includes Beatrice Mtetwa
Chin’ono appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa on Monday, facing charges of defeating or obstructing the course of justice after he allegedly tweeted that he had spoken with some members of National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) who told him that gold smuggler Henrietta Rushwaya was going to be granted bail.
Rushwaya, Mnangagwa’s relative and former Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) boss was arrested at Robert Mugabe International Airport after she was caught attempting to smuggle 6.09kgs of gold to Dubai worth over USD$300 000.
But Chin’ono’s tweet was confirmed after the state shockingly declined to oppose bail for Rushwaya. Magistrate Ngoni Nduna intervened and ordered the state to give reasons why they were not opposing bail.
That is when the state decided to oppose bail citing they had new charges against Rushwaya.
Speaking during a cross examination by his lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, Chin’ono accepted that the tweet was his, adding that the gold smuggling case was of national interest since millions of dollars are allegedly believed to be siphoned out of the country through gold smuggling.
It is confirmed that when Chin’ono was arrested last week, he was initially charged with disrespecting the Judiciary after he tweeted that the Chief Justice Luke Malaba was seen leaving the Magistrates Court when he was denied bail.
But during his detention at Harare Central Police Station, the police removed the charge including that of breaching bail conditions.
Chin’ono argued that they removed the other two charges because they realised Malaba would be asked to stand in the minor court answering to Chin’ono’s allegations.
“When the police arrested me at my house, they did not know why they were arresting me.
“They told me I had insulted the court and violated my bail. They removed a charge about Chief Justice Luke Malaba because it meant he would come and stand where I am.
“Even the boss of the NPA has accused the judiciary of corruption
“The person who was arrested has a history of criminal activities
“She (Rushwaya) comes from a very powerful family
“The President’s security was also involved
“You will be a stupid journalist not to be interested in that case.
“It was debated in British Parliament,” Chin’ono said.
He added, “I don’t think any competent court can convict me based on this malicious information.
“The Minister of Home Affairs confirmed USD 100 million worth of gold is being smuggled out of Zimbabwe every month. Money equivalent to running all our central hospitals for two years.”
When the state examined him, Chin’ono said; “there is no offense here there is malicious information.”
Chin’ono is already on bail after he was arrested on July 20 and charged with inciting violence in connection with 31st July protests against corruption in government, spent 45 days at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison before being released by the High Court.
The investigative journalist played a crucial role in exposing alleged corruption by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife Auxillia and son Collins, the US $60 million Dax Covidgate scandal that saw the arrest and dismissal of former Health Minister Obadiah Moyo.
He was arrested together with opposition Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume and MDC Alliance Vice Chairman Job Sikhala who have since been released on bail by the High Court in Harare. Sikhala attended court Monday in solidarity with their fellow detainee. Nehanda Radio
One of the teams racing to develop a coronavirus vaccine announced Monday its drug had shown 90 percent effectiveness against the illness, sending stock markets soaring and raising hopes of an end to draconian restrictions on movement.
An effective vaccine is seen as the best hope to break the cycle of virus surges and lockdowns endured across much of the world
US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer said tests involving more than 40,000 people had provided results that were a “critical milestone” in the search for a vaccine, as global infections soared passed 50 million — almost one-fifth of them in the United States.
Stock markets had already jumped after Joe Biden was called as the winner of the US presidential election at the weekend, and accelerated rapidly on the vaccine news.
Biden’s anti-pandemic strategy
An effective vaccine is seen as the best hope to break the cycle of virus surges followed by severe restrictions across much of the world since the Covid-19 first emerged in China late last year.
Tens of millions of people in Europe are currently living under restrictions preventing them from leaving their homes, and millions of business owners are enduring forced shutdowns.
– ‘Step closer’ –
Lockdowns and other restrictions have shredded the global economy but with few other tools at their disposal to protect vulnerable populations, politicians have felt their hands forced.
“We are a significant step closer to providing people around the world with a much-needed breakthrough to help bring an end to this global health crisis,” Pfizer chairman and CEO Albert Bourla said in a statement.
The drug, being developed jointly with German firm BioNTech, is one of more than 40 candidate vaccines, but no other has yet made similar claims about its effectiveness.
The companies said they could pass the final hurdles for a US rollout later this month, and could supply up to 50 million doses globally this year and up to 1.3 billion next year.
The scientific community reacted positively to the news, with top US expert Anthony Fauci describing the the results as “extraordinary”.
But others pointed out that no information had yet been disclosed about the ages of the participants in the trial.
“If a vaccine is to reduce severe disease and death, and thus enable the population at large to return to their normal day-to-day lives, it will need to be effective in older and elderly members of our society,” said Eleanor Riley of the University of Edinburgh.
– Biden task force –
Outgoing US President Donald Trump was among the first to react, writing on Twitter: “STOCK MARKET UP BIG, VACCINE COMING SOON. REPORT 90% EFFECTIVE. SUCH GREAT NEWS!”
Biden quickly followed, congratulating “the brilliant women and men who helped produce this breakthrough”.
American voters handed victory to Biden at least partly because of Trump’s failure to rein in the epidemic — often refusing to back restrictive measures or even mask-wearing in public and repeatedly undermining his own experts.
Biden, who will not be sworn in until January, has already announced a taskforce charged with handling the virus, promising to be informed by science and experts.
– ‘Out of control’ –
The vaccine news will be of particular relief to people in Europe — the current focal point of the pandemic and the region subject to the most widespread restrictions.
Italy was edging closer to a full lockdown, with experts warning of a drastic situation in hospitals.
“I am afraid there is no doubt that the situation is largely out of control,” said Massimo Galli, head of the infectious diseases department at Milan’s Sacco hospital.
And the grim news kept on coming elsewhere, with Russia surpassed its record for daily infections again Monday, testing the government’s resolve after it said it would not impose a new lockdown.
Hungary is now one of the hardest-hit countries in terms of deaths proportionate to its population, and the government announced new national restrictions to come into force Wednesday.
In France, which has imposed nationwide stay-at-home orders and is clocking more than 40,000 cases a day, the central bank revised its expectations of the damage wrought by the curbs.
“Before the second wave, we thought the recession would be a little less than nine percent, we think today that for 2020 as a whole it will be between nine and 10 percent,” Banque de France chief Francois Villeroy de Galhau said.
Before the vaccine news emerged, the World Health Organization (WHO) once again warned against complacency over a disease that has killed more than 1.25 million people across the planet.
“We might be tired of Covid-19. But it is not tired of us,” said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. AFP
