HARARE – Warriors and Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar has urged the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to move swiftly on approaching Trey Nyoni to join the national team.
Nyoni who plays for Liverpool and made headlines recently by becoming the Reds’ youngest player ever to feature in an FA Cup tie, has Zimbabwean roots.
The 16-year-old forward was born in the UK to Zimbabwean parents and this makes him eligible to play for the Warriors.
However, his talent could end up seeing him play for England, a nation he has already represented in the junior ranks.

But the former Dream Team goalkeeper, Grobbelaar remains positive Nyoni could don the Warriors jersey, but only if ZIFA swiftly approach and try to convince him.
“That he (Nyoni) will play for Zimbabwe, I don’t know. The decision lies with him and it is up to Zifa to move fast and talk to him,” Grobbelaar told the Standard.
Nicknamed the Jungleman during his playing days, Grobbelaar also said that UK based Zimbabwean players including Luton Town central midfielder Marvelous Nakamba could help in convincing Nyoni.
“Maybe players like Marvelous Nakamba can also assist in convincing him to play for Zimbabwe,” added the Jungleman.
At the moment, Nyoni hasn’t opened up about his international football career.
Nyoni is not the only Zimbabwean who is at Liverpool.
The club also has promising right back Isaac Mabaya on it’s books.

The biggest joke of the day. In your rightful mind, England birthed, raised, and groomed him with all royalties for him to sell his future on immediate gratification?
do they know where they are coming from?
People should leave this youngster alone. How can a 16 year old board a plane to come and play football for the nation. Leave him until he reaches 23 maybe

Heroes are dead and are politicians most of them.. unfortunately only war vets get pensions not footballers after injuries!!!??
