ENGLAND – A 40-year-old Zimbabwean man living in the United Kingdom has been handed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following repeated anti-social behaviour offences in the town of Amesbury.
Tatenda Mushandu, originally from Zimbabwe and resident in Amesbury, appeared before the Salisbury Magistrates Court on 10 February, where he was convicted on four counts of persistent begging in a public place. The court also imposed fines related to the offences.
Following the conviction, the court issued a Criminal Behaviour Order valid until February 2029. The order prohibits Mushandu from approaching members of the public to request or imply he needs donations. He is also barred from sitting or loitering within 50 metres of any shop or business in Amesbury.
In addition, he is banned from entering Solstice Park Services — including its car parks, footpaths and surrounding retail areas — as well as specific retail outlets in the town.
According to PC Emma Smith of the Amesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team under Wiltshire Police, the court acted firmly due to what she described as “chronic offending” that caused harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public, particularly shoppers and retail workers.
Police warned that breaching the order would constitute a criminal offence and could lead to immediate arrest and further court action.
Members of the public in the area have been urged to report any violations to police.
