Two armed robbery suspects arrested after Mukuru heist in Harare

HARARE – Two suspected members of a four-man armed robbery gang that targeted a Mukuru Money Transfer agency at Zuva Service Station near Mabelreign Shops on Saturday afternoon have been arrested.

The suspects were apprehended by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers with the assistance of members of the public after a scuffle at the scene. Two other suspects managed to flee and are currently being sought by police.

The gang reportedly stole US$5 000 and 80 000 South African rand during the robbery.

Confirming the incident, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police responded swiftly to the robbery.

“Yes, I can confirm there was a robbery incident that occurred in Harare today involving four armed robbers.

“Two were apprehended by the Zimbabwe Republic Police with the assistance of members of the public, while the other two escaped following a scuffle,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

He commended the public for cooperating with police and urged continued collaboration in the fight against crime.

“We are urging the public to work closely with the ZRP to combat crime,” he added.

A manhunt for the two remaining suspects is underway.
