SOUTH AFRICA – In what looks like the first breakthrough in a case that had seemingly now run cold, Gauteng businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe has been arrested for the murder of South African entertainer DJ Sumbody.

On Monday, National Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said police arrested four men between the ages of 45 and 60 in connection with the murder.

“The arrests were all effected in Gauteng on Monday afternoon and three of the suspects are believed to be hitmen and one is believed to have ordered the hit on the DJ.”

DJ Sumbody, a beloved figure in the South African music scene, was tragically killed in a hail of bullets in November 2022 in Woodmead.

The shooting also resulted in the death of another person, and a third person was left injured.

Since the incident, police have maintained a level of discretion regarding the investigation, withholding details about possible motives or the events leading up to the shooting.

However, the recent arrest is seen as a critical development in what has been a lengthy and complex probe.

Molefe and alleged hitmen Michael Pule Tau, Musa Kekana and Tlego Floyd Mabusela are now before the courts and awaiting trial for the hit-style killing of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart in April last year.

Kekana and Mabusela also face charges of attempted murder relating to a failed hit on actress and socialite Tebogo Thobejane, an attack allegedly set in motion by her former lover, tender don Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.

National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola said this was a significant breakthrough that will hopefully provide closure to families involved.

“Well done to the teams that have been piecing together evidence since November 2022. This is a culmination of hardwork and dedication to justice.

“This is one of those complex cases that our teams needed to take their time in ensuring a thorough investigation so that we could ultimately bring a strong case before court”, said Masemola.
