The Zimbabwean community in the United Kingdom and back home is mourning the sudden death of broadcaster, DJ and community leader Mandla “Stone”, whose passing on Friday 10 July 2026, has left family, friends and colleagues devastated.
The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.
Affectionately known as “Stone”, Mandla was widely admired for his warm personality, generosity and ability to bring people together.
He was a founding member of the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA UK) and remained an influential figure within the Zimbabwean diaspora throughout his life.
Whether entertaining crowds as a DJ, presenting on radio or simply spending time with friends, Mandla was known for his infectious laughter, humility and unwavering willingness to help others.
His educational journey began at McKeurtan Primary School, where classmates remember him as an exceptionally gifted Mathematics student. He was the person many turned to for help with difficult problems and also excelled in drama, regularly starring in school productions.
He later attended Milton High School before enrolling at Bulawayo Polytechnic, where he studied Computer Science.
Friends say his fascination with technology began long before formal education. He possessed an extraordinary ability to dismantle and rebuild computers with remarkable ease, a talent that would later shape his professional career.
After completing his Higher National Diploma in Computer Studies, Mandla graduated at the top of his class before relocating to the United Kingdom to pursue new opportunities.
In Britain, he built a respected career spanning technology, broadcasting and entertainment.
He became a popular DJ and later a radio presenter, earning admiration for his unmistakable voice, vibrant personality and deep love for Zimbabwean music and culture.
Mandla also served on the executive committee of the Dorset Ethnic Minority Awards, helping recognise and celebrate excellence within diverse communities.
He was also the founder of Mafaro.com, an entertainment website that became a popular source of information on Zimbabwean events across the United Kingdom.
Those closest to him say his greatest gift was making people feel valued.
Friends describe him as a dependable colleague, trusted mentor and loyal companion who always found time to support others, no matter how busy he was.
Above all else, Mandla was a devoted father.
He leaves behind four children—a son, twin daughters and another daughter—who have lost a loving parent far too soon.
As news of his death spread, tributes poured in from across Zimbabwe and the diaspora, with many remembering a man whose kindness, intelligence and generosity touched countless lives.
While his passing leaves an enormous void, friends say his legacy will endure through the lives he influenced, the communities he strengthened and the countless memories he created.
The family hopes to repatriate Mandla’s body to Zimbabwe for burial and has appealed for financial assistance to help cover funeral and transportation costs through a GoFundMe campaign.
Those wishing to support the family are encouraged to contribute towards the fundraising effort as they prepare to give him a final farewell.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
