DENMARK – Zimbabwe Warriors defender Munashe Garananga is set to feature in UEFA Champions League football next season. This is after winning the Danish Superliga title with FC Copenhagen on Sunday.
The Danish giants sealed the championship with a convincing 3-0 victory over Nordsjaelland in the final match of the season.
The title win guarantees Copenhagen a place in the second qualifying round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.
They will need to navigate three qualifying rounds to reach the group stage and face some of Europe’s top clubs.
Garananga, who was in his debut season with Copenhagen after signing a four-year deal from Belgian side KV Mechelen in July 2024, made 11 league appearances.
“FC Copenhagen has strengthened their defense with the addition of Munashe Garananga, who has signed for the summer 2028,” the club wrote on its social media platforms in July 2024.
This latest triumph adds to the 24-year-old defender’s growing list of honours, as he now holds two league winners’ medals, his first coming with Moldovan champions FC Sheriff Tiraspol.
By winning the league title in his debut season, the Zimbabwean international’s dream start at Copenhagen was fulfilled.
It comes after on his arrival at the club, he said: “I’m looking forward to joining the team and helping to win the Danish championship next season.”
Garananga’s career has been on the rise since joining Ubuntu Cape Town Football Academy in South Africa from Prince Edward School Academy a few years back.
In February 2022, he then joined Dynamo Brest in Belarus before moving to Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova in January 2023.
From Tiraspol he joined Mechelen at the start of 2024 before completing his move to Copenhagen in July in the same year.
