HARARE – As the July 25 elections draw closer, more names are surfacing as potential candidates to fill the vacant Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairmanship.

Among the latest to be linked with the post are Herentals owner Innocent Benza, Simba Bhora chairman Isiah Mupfurutsa, and Highlanders chairperson Kenneth Mhlophe, figures already circulating in football circles as possible contenders.

Joining the growing list of rumoured candidates are FC Platinum chairperson Dumisani Sisale and Manica Diamonds chairman Masimba Chihowa.

Rumours suggest both are now reportedly in the mix.

In the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL), only one name has surfaced so far, FC Platinum Holdings Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Relations Executive, Chido Chizondo.

Incumbent ZWPSL chairperson Theresa Maguraushe is also believed to be interested in retaining her position.

Despite the rumours, no public or official declarations of candidacy have been made to date.

At the moment, all potential candidates are still speculative.

Last Thursday, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announced the roadmap for the eagerly awaited elections.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to inform all stakeholders and the general public that it has developed a proposed road map for the forthcoming Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League (ZWSL) elections,” announced ZIFA.

“This electoral process will be conducted in strict adherence to the ZIFA Statutes and the ZIFA Electoral Code (2024), ensuring that the principles of transparency, integrity, and fairness remain at the core of all proceedings.”

These elections will determine new leadership for both the PSL and ZWPSL.

The PSL election will usher in a new executive board comprising a chairperson, vice-chairperson and three executive committee members.

The ZWPSL will elect a chairperson, vice-chairperson, and five board members.

The PSL chairmanship has remained vacant since Farai Jere resigned in 2024 to pursue the ZIFA presidency before he later withdrew.
