HARARE – While his father, Wicknell Chivayo, is a well known controversial tenderpreneur, six-year-old John has wants to walk on a different path, becoming a professional footballer.
John dreams of playing in Spain for La Liga side Real Betis.
This was revealed by his academy, Real Betis Zimbabwe, on their social media platforms over the weekend.
Chivayo also supports his son’s ambition.
This was evident when he visited the Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe training grounds at Morris Depot in Harare on Saturday to watch his son in action.
“Our Under-8 group had a surprise visit from one of our proud parents, Sir Wicknell Chivayo, father of our superstar John, who dreams of playing for Real Betis Balompié in La Liga one day,” the academy posted on Facebook.
Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe chairman, Gerald Sibanda spoke highly of John’s dedication as well as his teammates.
“John is a wonderful, disciplined, and hardworking boy in our Under-8 group. We are delighted to be nurturing him and his teammates in our nursery program.
“His dream is to play in La Liga for our club, Real Betis Balompie. I’m thrilled that John is part of our brand. His parents have been incredibly supportive in helping us develop his passion,” Sibanda said.
Sibanda also encouraged other academy parents to play active roles in their children’s football development.
“In Europe, parents are deeply involved in their kids’ early football careers, and we should do the same. Football is a billion-dollar industry,” he added.
