SOUTH AFRICA – Zimbabwean football star Khama Billiat could have some of his properties in South African auctioned off due to a debt he owes a South African bank.
One of the major financial issues involves an outstanding debt of approximately R372,066 owed to Standard Bank from an overdraft facility taken in 2020.
While Billiat reportedly made regular payments until 2023, he has since defaulted on monthly installments ranging between R80,000 and R90,000.
Since the Zimbabwean footballer relocated to his native country, attempts to serve him summons have been thus far unsuccessful.
In addition, Billiat reportedly also owes over R1,7 million as a result of a home loan he took out to purchase a properly in Midrand, South Africa.
Emerging Markets Home Loans, the creditor, sought an eviction order against occupants of the house after Billiat allegedly ceased making payments following his move to Yadah FC in March 2024. The property was reportedly set to be auctioned to recover the outstanding amount.
During his time at Chiefs, Billiat earned a substantial salary, but the exact figures were never confirmed since joining the Soweto giants in 2018 from Sundowns.
His switch back to Zimbabwe saw him become the highest-paid player in Zimbabwe then as a Yadah FC player. The 34-year-old pocketed about R95,500 [US$ 5 000] per month during the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
His contract with Yadah FC ended in December 2024. When he moved to Scottland FC, Billiat remained the most expensive player in the modest Zimbabwean league.
His signing-on fees at Scottland FC have not been confirmed since joining the club in January 2025. But FARPost understands that he pocketed a hefty US$ 40,000 [roughly R748,000].
