HARARE – Acting President General Constantino Chiwenga has issued a stern warning to individuals who accumulate wealth through corrupt means, emphasizing that Zimbabwe is a country meant for every citizen to enjoy.
This warning comes at a time when President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is currently on leave, is facing accusations of associating with controversial businessmen, including Wicknell Chivayo.
Chiwenga made the statement while addressing mourners at the burial of the late national hero, Justin Hugh Mupamhanga, at the National Heroes Acre.
Chiwenga stressed that the government’s Vision 2030 is inclusive, benefiting all citizens, and not just a select few who engage in ill-gotten wealth accumulation.

He also highlighted the importance of national unity, urging citizens to remain vigilant and defend the country’s resources, ideals, and values.
“Our Vision 2030 is for all of us, kwete dzamunoti mbinga! Kuhondo taidziti zvigananda: those who grow big tummies through ill-gotten wealth and questionable morals!
“A Nation is as developed as its weakest man and woman, indeed, at its remotest part,” he said.
Chiwenga acknowledged that the government is aware of the challenges facing the nation, including unreliable public transport, unregulated informal markets, health issues, and infrastructure challenges.
“The Government is fully aware of the issues that are affecting the citizenry such as unreliable public transport, unregulated informal market, health and infrastructure challenges which are already being addressed.
“Irrespective of all these, we must remain united and focused. Let us remain vigilant and ready to defend our country, its resources and ideals, including its values and sum-culture.
“We must not be a generation which betrays or fails our Revolution and its ideals purchased through such painful sacrifice,” Chiwenga said.
Chiwenga’s warning comes at a time when Zimbabwe is facing significant political and socio-economic challenges.
The former Army General is embroiled in a bitter succession dispute with Mnangagwa, who is reportedly planning to extend his term in office beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms, which would end in 2028.
Mnangagwa’s alleged plan to stay in power has sparked concerns among some Zanu-PF members, including Chiwenga, who is seen as a potential successor.
