‘I want you to be rich’: Sakupwanya tells Scottland FC players after promotion

Ambitious Northern Region Division One League champions, Scottland FC owner Pedzisayi ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya has promised to make his club’s players rich.

Sakupwaya is seen in a video shared on the club’s social media platforms, addressing players, promising to make them rich and turning Scottland into a powerhouse in Zimbabwean football.

“We (club) are going far vakomana (guys). I want you to be rich guys, manzwisisa (do you understand),” said Sakupwanya addressing his players.

Sakupwanya also revealed his close associate, flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo through his financial backing, wants Scottland to resemble ex- African champions TP Mazembe.

The monied Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants, are one of the most successful clubs in Africa.

“Ndina bhururu wangu akandiudza, sir Wicknell (Chivayo), vakanditi toda kuti Scottland iite seTP Mazembe (I have a close friend of mine, Wicknell who told me he Scottland to be like Mazembe),” added Sakupwanya as he told players.

Chivayo recently promised Scottland players a hefty US$1 million bonus for earning top flight league promotion.

The Mabvuku based side defeated Black Mambas 3-1 on the last day of the league to secure promotion.

Previously, the ex-convict had pledged vehicles (Toyota Aquas) to Scottland players if they defeated Herental U-20, a match they went on to win the game.

The moneybags are already preparing for the top flight league after controversially being crowned winners of the Northern Region league, finishing two points ahead of Mwos.

Their crowning has raised eyebrows with suspicions of match fixing and manipulation of the league’s leadership believed to have heavily taken place.

Scottland were awarded three points and three goals for their abandoned match against Karoi United.

The match was called off with two minutes left to full time with the referee highlighting he was hit by an object on his genitals by a Karoi fan and was no longer able to continue officiating.

At the time, the match was tied at 1-1, to which Karoi United appealed to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) arguing the ruling favoured Scottland.

Karoi United argue the dramatic referee faked the injury, and he was biased towards the visitors, the reason why he called off the game knowing it will be decided in favour of the visitors in the boardroom by the league’s leadership.

A hearing will be held by ZIFA on the 19th of November to address the issue.
