South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe set for second term as CAF president

South African billionaire businessman, Patrice Motsepe is set to remain as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) president for a second term.

Motsepe will retain the CAF presidency unopposed.

It comes after the Mamelodi Sundowns owner is the only candidate for the top position as other aspiring candidates opted not to submit their nomination before deadline day, November 12th.

Ex-Egyptian FA President Hany Abou Rida, who was initially considered a potential candidate, has withdrawn his candidacy.

His is reportedly set to focus on his bid for re-election to the FIFA Council.

This has left the path clear for Motsepe to continue leading African football

Motsepe’s uncontested re-election is scheduled to take place on the 12th of March in 2025, during the CAF General Assembly scheduled for Cairo in Egypt

Motsepe took over from Madagascar’s Ahmed Ahmed in March 2021.

The AGM will also determine the new members of the CAF Executive Committee and Africa’s representatives on the FIFA Council.
