Simba Nyanhanga, the founder of the ZimOnline Radio platform and one-time spokesperson for former Vice President of Zimbabwe, Joyce Mujuru, has died.
Nyanhanga, who also ran the Miss Zimbabwe UK pageant, was reportedly found dead by one of his workers at his Harare residence on Monday.
The cause of Nyanhanga’s death is as yet unclear.
Confirming the news of Nyanhanga’s death on social media, his nephew Sir Titus VeTech, spoke of his uncle as a larger than life character who was always there for his family.
“In 2018, after getting suspended from ZRP High, I called my brother, who then called Daddy Simba. Knowing my father’s reaction, I was anxious, but Simba came, stood by me, and advocated on my behalf, saying, ‘Mwana ndozvavanoita.’
“I ended up spending my two-week suspension at his place. I could always depend on him. I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you in your last moments, Dad. RIP Simba the kingmaker,” he wrote.
In another stirring tribute, academic and author Charlton Tsodzo described the late radio personality as a complicated figure who was loved as much as he was loathed by some.
“Am really sorry to hear about the untimely loss of mkoma Simba ‘The Kingmaker’ Nyanhanga….. one of the pioneers of Zimbabwean online radio…great ideas man…sharp entrepreneur…..he was loved and hated in equal measure…
“..many of his friends blocked/ unblocked him …ghosted/unghosted him on socials and in real life several times) ” because he was stubborn and often a pain in the ass.
“…but ultimately he was a good man..who stood by what he believed in …and meant well …..cared about his family and was also a genuine, sincere lover of people,” he wrote.
