Europe based Uefa match and FIFA Football agent, Ellen Chiwenga has expressed her disappointment after her attempt to contest in the upcoming Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidential elections hit a snag.
Chiwenga’s desire to lead ZIFA has at the moment, been hindered by a new clause found in the newly adopted ZIFA constitution which was amended by the congress on Friday.
The amendment took place at an Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Mana Resort in Harare.
The clause that has shut the door for Chiwenga stipulates that “All members of the (ZIFA) Executive Committee shall be citizens and residence of Zimbabwe and shall have been continuously resident in Zimbabwe for a period of 2 (two) years preceding the date of election,” reads the constitution.
As a result, Chiwenga was automatically disqualified because she stays in Europe.
Expressing her disappointment, Chiwenga took to her Facebook page.
“Sahwira ndatadza kupinda ZIFA President nekuti handigare muZimbabwe. Ndo shaisano chaiyo (Guy I have failed to contest for the ZIFA Presidency because I don’t stay in Zimbabwe. That is unjust,” she wrote.
Additionally, apart from Chiwenga, the new statute considered by a section of football lovers as discriminatory, also affected Marshall Gore and FC Wangu Mazodze owner Richard Mazodze.
Gore is based in the United Kingdom while Mazodze stays in the United States of America.
Both had publicly declared their interest in vying for the ZIFA top post.
