HARARE – Outspoken former Norton Member of Parliament (MP) Temba Mliswa, has withdrawn his High Court case against the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), conceding defeat in his legal challenge.
Mliswa was contesting his disqualification from the upcoming ZIFA elections slated for Saturday in Harare, where he intended to run for the presidential post.
He questioned the legitimacy of the election process and the validity of the new ZIFA statutes being used to govern the electoral process.
Through his legal challenge, Mliswa was seeking to stop the highly anticipated poll until the issues he raised were resolved.
However, he withdrew his case on Tuesday before High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi in Harare.
Mliswa, alongside Walter Magaya, Gift Banda, and Benjani Mwaruwari, were disqualified from the presidential race after failing an integrity test conducted by the ZIFA Electoral Committee.
The former Zimbabwe senior national team fitness trainer had argued that the ZIFA Congress, which approved the constitutional amendments in October, lacked the mandate to do so since its term of office had expired during ZIFA’s suspension from football by FIFA.
As a result, Mliswa was claiming the process was therefore null and void.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, Magaya is also challenging his disqualification.
His matter which is also before Justice Chitapi was postponed to this Thursday having initially been set for last Friday.
The Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader is seeking to stop the elections scheduled for this Saturday at the Rainbow Towers in Harare.
