After spending 40 days in prison, controversial South African cleric Pastor Mboro said his ordeal behind bars inspired him to tap into his musical talent and release a song titled Ngiyaba Slicer.
Mboro was last month released on R3 000 bail while his co-accused, Vincent Baloyi (bodyguard) was released on warning. The pair are expected back in court on October 21.
On Sunday, a video of Mboro singing went viral on social media, as many expressed surprise at the cleric’s sudden interest in music. In the song in question, Mboro claims that no matter how many come against him, he will slice them, which some thought referred to as his foes.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Mboro said he had been inspired to record the song by the talented people he met in prison.
“It’s me who’s singing. I need to control the narrative and the direction of the song, what I meant and what was I saying in the song. I have to officially release the song, I need to apply my mind to it have clarity, and understand how music works.
“While I was in prison I heard songs and I’d like to meet the guys who did the songs. I think we have talent in South Africa.”
Mboro, Baloyi and his son face 12 charges, including kidnapping, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and assault.
This after an incident at Matsediso Primary School in Katlehong, where the accused allegedly kidnapped two minors on 5 August.
A video of the event went viral on social media, showing the three men armed with pangas and an assault rifle as they forcefully took the children.
