Outspoken musician Makhadzi has bemoaned what she says is a lack of support from South Africa, saying her countrymen found it easier to support foreign performers like Chris Brown instead of acts like her.

With international superstar Chris Brown set to perform at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on December 14, excitement has sky-rocketed. Tickets for the show range from R515 for general admission to a whopping R5,745 for VIP Hall of Fame Lounge tickets.

Makhadzi, who is set to host her one-woman show on 24 December at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, was not amused by the situation and expressed her disgruntlement with her fellow countrymen on social media.

“South Africa ke (it’s) movie so nna I must take 10 years to sell out Peter Mokaba stadium. Chris Brown lamofa (you are giving him) two hours. Yoo Lenalede tshele (You have serious issues).

“Gale bona batho lena lebo hyper nyana shem (When you see people, just give nice vibes),” wrote Makhadzi.

In an interview with Zimoja, Makhadzi said she was disheartened by the support received by international acts.

“It’s really discouraging to see international artists selling out fast while we don’t get the same support. It kills our industry. I hope this will one day change,” she said.

Turning to her album, which was released last week, Makhadzi said the 21-track effort would show her journey in music. The Limpopo-born star features gospel greats Lebo Sekgobela, Master KG and Nkosazana Daughter on the album.

“The album has 21 songs, and I wrote all the songs. The album is a reflection of my musical journey,” she added.
