UNITED KINGDOM – Zimbabwean musician Mambo Dhuterere will not be part of the heavyweight cast of artists from the continent that will take part in the Africa Music Festival taking place in the UK this weekend after a dispute with promoters on payment terms saw him pull out of the event.
Alick Macheso, Koffi Olomide, Makhadzi, Chef 187, and Tocky Vibes are just some of the acts that are billed to perform at the fest, whose main event will be held at Abbey Park in Leicester on Saturday.
An after-party will be held on Saturday at Kapital Venue while another show will be held on Sunday at the same locale.
In a post on Facebook, Dhuterere said he was disappointed to be off the festival’s line-up after promoters had only promised payment on his arrival in the UK. The show is being promoted by Y2K Entertainment Promotions.
“It’s unfortunate we won’t be attending due to little misunderstanding… I personally thank Y2K for believing in me nekundikwanisawo pama African giants and our fans in Europe thank you…
“They did ma Visa and bought tickets for everyone but management yati Europe is too far to be told payment moiwana upon arrival yet contract richiti inouya before departure…,” Dhuterere wrote.
The musician said he was disappointed in particular for his fans who would not be able to see him perform live in the UK.
“Am heartbroken I know my supporters feel the same, kusanzwanana kwenyu kunovhiringa ini nevatsigiri vangu big time,kune 1 munhu asiya zvese kuuya kuzoona Mambo and zvakandikoshera, neniwo ndasiya zvese kuti andione then this …. I love you all ” he posted.
Last year’s edition of the festival brought its share of controversy, as Makhadzi and Jah Prayzah complained before the thousands of fans about the time they were given on stage, with the former even alleging sabotage.
Makhadzi would later go and let rip live on Facebook claiming the organisers had conspired to sabotage her and Jah Prayzah in order to promote Winky D.
