CHINHOYI – A 34-year-old man, Moses Sithole, of Mwanga farm in Darwendale, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for stock theft and received a warning and caution for the theft of a dog.
Sithole appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court, facing two charges.
The first charge stemmed from an incident on August 16, 2024, where Sithole allegedly stole a calf from the complainant’s farm, killing it and removing its left rear leg.
The complainant discovered the crime scene with a blood-stained stone, knife, and torch, which was identified as belonging to Sithole.
The second charge related to an incident in June 2024, where Sithole allegedly stole the complainant’s dog, valued at USD35, while they were drinking together at a neighboring farm.
Sithole sold the dog without the complainant’s knowledge, and the complainant discovered the theft in July 2024.
The court sentenced Sithole to 9 years imprisonment for the stock theft charge and issued a warning and caution for the theft of the dog. The value of the stolen goods totaled US$335.
In another case, three police officers stationed at CID Chiredzi appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court on assault charges.
Valentine Dhliwayo (40), James Chiduwo (43), and Isaac Musungati (34) are accused of assaulting a complainant during an investigation into a case of unlawful entry and theft.
According to the State, the incident occurred on January 14, 2023, at around 8:30 pm, when the officers visited the complainant’s residence in Tshovani, Chiredzi.
After failing to recover the stolen property, which included a laptop and USD 10,000, the officers allegedly took the complainant to CID Chiredzi and assaulted him, resulting in a fractured leg.
The trial is set to continue on August 30, 2024. The accused persons have been remanded pending the next court appearance.
