NORTON – Ambitious Northern Region Division One League side Scottland player and owner Scott Sakupwanya has criticised MWOS Head Coach Lloyd Mutasa for alleged ‘juju’ antics following the two team’s 1-1 stalemate at the weekend.
Denver Mukamba broke the deadlock in the first half to put Scottland in front before Arthur Banda headed home in the dying minutes to level matters.
Banda’s equaliser was a thorn in the flesh of a disappointed Scottland family as the team looked set to collect three points away at Ngoni Stadium.
However, it is not the equaliser but the act of alleged ‘juju’ antics prior to the goal that disappointed Sakupwanya.
The Mabvuku Member of Parliament accuses Mutasa, a former Dynamos player for sending one of the team’s ball boys to sprinkle some liquid alleged to be ‘juju’ at the Scottland’s goal a move he believes that disturbed their goalkeeper Panashe Nyabunga.
The gold dealer reportedly stormed the pitch after the match and confronted Mutasa with the aim to fist fight him.
This was before his security details intervened to refrain him while Mutasa found his way to the dressing and did not appear for post match interviews.
Criticising Mutasa for alleged superstition, Sakupwanya said: “We have got worse results than this one this season when we lost some games, but we accepted the result and didn’t complain at all.
“We are complaining now because we feel that it’s not right for a player to be distracted by outside forces like what happened to our goalkeeper.
“The MWOS coach sent the ball boy to distract our goalkeeper by pouring whatever liquid they poured at our goal and all the other stuff they splashed there,” he told the Herald newspaper.
“This was a crucial stage of the game and we are unhappy that there was no protection against our ‘keeper and this was a deliberate act by the coach of our opponents.”
Threatening to pull out of the league, the gold dealer added: “We are not happy at all, and we feel that if this is the way things are done in the league, then it isn’t a place for us to continue playing there because we are investing a lot in our team and our community.
“All we want is fairness and if there is no fairness then there is no reason for us to remain part of the league.”
Scottland who are undoubtedly keen to secure the top flight league ticket, are currently 4th on the log table with 43 points after 22 matches played so far.
They are three points behind current log leaders Black Rhinos who saw off Ngezi Platinum Stars U-19s 1-0.
