Former South African football star Matthew Booth and wife Sonia Booth have finally divorced two years after his cheating scandal made headlines and led to a legal battle between the couple.
The couple’s troubles made headlines after Sonia claimed that Booth was cheating on her with Bongani Mthombeni-Möller who was married at the time.
She sensationally claimed that the footballer had even woke up in the middle of the night to bake a cheesecake for his mistress, which was how she discovered he was having an affair.
At the time Booth said he was disappointed that his wife had decided to share the issue on all public platforms with “an intention to tarnish my name without discussing them with me.”
While Booth denied allegations of an affair, the two seemed to have made things official since then, appearing together in various functions while posting pictures of each other on social media.
According to the divorce which was finalised last Friday at the Johannesburg High Court, the couple had a 50% split of their joint estate due to being married in community of property. Booth will not be asked to pay any spousal support.
Sonia has in the past highlighted that Booth was a cheater throughout most of their time together.
“Saying I was horrified is a lie because I dealt with many women, especially around 2012 when he was living at our Cape Town property playing for Ajax Cape Town,” she revealed in an interview after their split. Telly Africa
