Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Divine Lunga impressed coach Rulani Mokwena with a strong performance in his first start of the season, a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
Mokwena praised Lunga for his lack of mistakes and his stability following it was his first appearance this season.
He told the media during a post match press briefing: “If there’s some form of silver lining in the dark cloud it can be Divine, I think he was good, it’s difficult to play against a front-three that not only has speed and physicality but very little defensive responsibilities.
“Saleng doesn’t track back. I think there were one or two good individual performances and Divine’s was one of those, stable, zero mistakes.”
The youthful gaffer added that the 28-year-old needs improvement in certain areas, particularly in build up play.
“…but okay a bit difficult with the build-up but that will come with more understanding. When he understands what to do in certain schemes.”
Lunga was initially ineligible due to foreign quota restrictions but has since been registered as a local player after applying for South African citizenship.
The lanky defender joined Sundowns in July 2021 from Golden Arrows on a three year deal.
