Ms Tunzi emerged top in the contest after impressing the judges and fans through the different rounds with different outfits.

Miss Puerto Rico, Madison Anderson and Miss Mexico, Sofía Aragón emerged as runner-ups.

During question time Ms Tunzi said that the most important thing that girls needed to learn was leadership.

“It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time not because we don’t want to but because of what society has labelled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings in the world,” she said.

Ms Tunzi had been running a campaign online where she urged South African men to write what she described as love letters to the country’s women.

She went on to incorporate the letters in her national costume outfit that also featured the South African flag colours. BBC News

‘Why I’m annoyed about Miss Universe 2019’

By Jera Did you know that this is the only year in which the Miss America, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA crowns are currently on the heads of black women? When Eastern Cape’s own Zozibini won Miss Universe, she joined the list of black women currently wearing the world’s most coveted tiaras. And even before she had recovered from jet lag, flying back home, Miss Jamaica – Toni-Ann Singh – joined the string of black queens with her victory at Miss World. Despite the Miss Universe frenzy, I must say that I am a little annoyed. Not with Miss Universe herself – Good heavens, no! The reason for my irritation is the millions of terabytes of hypocrisy currently infesting my Facebook and Twitter newsfeed.

Jean Gasho: Black People, please stop celebrating things which are supposed to be normal...

By Mary Tamar was Jean (formerly Jean Gasho) It saddens me a little, the things that black people are forced to celebrate. A black South African woman with her own hair goes on a beauty pageant and wins it, and we are all celebrating, not the win itself, but the fact that a dark-skinned woman with her own hair on her head won… A black woman looking like a black woman is now something so unusual, we have to celebrate it. Am I the only one who is very disturbed by this.
